Default Fuel and pan rate

Featured Replies

I know there is a line in the FS9 .cfg file where one can set the default fuel load to something other than 100%. And another line to speed up the 'PAN RATE" in the VC. Can someone tell me what the lines are. I did this once years ago before I upgraded to WIN 7... but can't seem to find the places now.Thanks..Bill

[CONTROLS]PAN_RATE=400 is default, 900 is a number I see a lot of people use. I am using 1100 now and think it might be a little fast.Fuel load at startup is determined by your default flight, not the FS9.cfg..flt files are editable with Notepad.regards,Joe

Hi Joe,Thank you for the info. I have the faster pan rate working. However, if I set the default flight fuel to 30% and then exit the flight and begin another flight, the fuel is back to 100%. Any ideas?Bill

Did you save the default flight after adjusting the fuel level? Are you beginning another flight by loading a saved flight? It will have it's own fuel levels.regards,Joe

Hi Joe,I saved a flight-- Default Cessna. This now works IF I load the default flight first, then switch aircraft. But I MUST to load the default saved flight. OK.. Of course if I then load a 4-engine aircraft, 2 fuel tanks are 30% and the other 2 are 100%.I seem to remember that in the past there was a way to- 1- not have to actually load the default flight... AND 4 engine aircraft would have all 4 engines at 30%.Bill

Joe, Correct that... any 2 fuel tank aircraft DO now load at 30%.. Just the 4 3-4 fuel tank load at 30% and 100%.Of course I guess I could make a plane with 4 fuel tanks the default flight. :>))Thanks againBill

This is the [FUEL] section from the default C172 @ KSEA flight (...FS9FlightsotherFLTSIM.FLT)...[Fuel]TankSelector=AllCenter=100.00LeftMain=100.00RightMain=100.00LeftAux=100.00RightAux=100.00LeftTip=100.00RightTip=100.00Center 2=100.00Center 3=100.00External 1=100.00External 2=100.00As the C172 only has 2 tanks you can only change 2 tanks in the sim fuel GUI.If you open your default .flt file with Notepad and change all of the above to *=30.00 then any time you start a flight from the Create-a-Flight screen it will load with all tanks being 30% full.regards,Joe

Hey Joe! Were you going with that......................enough already.you sure you are not getting your PAN mixed up with your TEXTURE BANDWIDTH MULTI settings TBM is set to 10 by default and can also be increased to 400 or > than but > than 400 I believe I am right in saying does nothing. Not sure about whether PAN RATE above 400 does wizz the aircraft any faster either.I declare this reply to be fuzzy and rather pointless actually .I DO apologize.Andy

Andy,I tried Joe's "PAN RATE" fix and it works. I can now pan really fast..Joe,I tried your fix for the fuel tanks.,, I changed the [FUEL] section in FLTSIM.FLT (I used 40% for clarity) . At the moment there is no change.. 2-fuel tank aircraft still load at the previous 30% (from when I changed the fuel in the already loaded DEFAULT flight)...and aircraft with more than 2 tanks still load with 2@ 30% and the rest at 100%The reason I am trying to do this is that I rarely take long flights.Bill

Changing FLTSIM.FLT will only work if that is your default flight. If you have saved another flight as your default flight, then that's the .flt file you need to edit.Again, if you are loading another saved flight FS will read the fuel levels from that .flt file.My fix only works if you create a new flight. What happens is when you start FS it loads your default flight and all it's parameters. This is the same as how folks create a "cold and dark" startup.regards,Joe

Joe,I don't know. I have done everything you say, several times.. I have saved the flightsim.flt in notepad with 40% in all tanks.I have made the 'red Cessna 172" at SEA the DEFAULT flight. Exited FS9, loaded FS9 again. default flight shows up, BUT witht the old 30% fuel tanks..??Bill
