November 25, 201114 yr Hi Guys, is there any IAN approaches in Europe, or is it only approved under FAA? Anders Weber ATPL(A) Student EKBI - Billund, Denmark
November 26, 201114 yr I've never used IAN approaches, but I believe it's just a presentation style of non-precision approaches for the 737, not really an approach like an ILS or VOR. Matt Cee
November 26, 201114 yr Anders, like Matt said, no such thing as a published IAN approach. IAN is a way of displaying data in the PFD regarding non-precision approaches such as Rnav (GNSS and RNP), LOC, VOR or ILS with the GS out of service. So theoretically, you can use IAN to fly the aforementioned approaches anywhere they are available.I don´t know however, whether JAA or the European operators are allowing/using it at this time.In Brazil, it appears that Gol´s newly received NGs come with IAN and the airline is considering its inclusion in their SOP. A capt from the airline said that it´s use is so straightforward and intuitive that they might not even receive any formal Level-D training before being allowed to put it to use. I have been using it regularly on my Rnav approaches and it works like a charm. But to be honest, if I were a real NG crewmember I´d rather have a go at it on the sim before commiting 189 pax to trial and error! Cheers,Victor M. Lima
November 26, 201114 yr I know for a fact, that some operators use LNAV/VNAV overlay with raw data monitoring for non precision approaches. Whether they use IAN with that, I do not know. --Peter Fabian
