Fs2004/ FSX AI to X-Plane

Featured Replies

Hi!This project looks good candidate to replace my age-old FS2004 setup. My biggest issue is of AI. I really like to take it with me - or at least have an ability to build it to the scale I'm used to.I have 1000+ Ai flight plans and adjoining paints and planes to support it. Is there any way to convert whole lot to X-Plane?

most definately not.read about x-plane 10's ATC/AI here:http://www.x-plane.com/blog/category/air-traffic-control/It's different, and still in it's infancy. On the other hand it is a major step forward for x-plane itself and it might be only a matter of time until this aspect of the sim really shines.

If AI is important to you then X-Plane will not fulfill your needs. You will be limited to 20 AI aircraft and that's if you're system is powerful enough to support them. As each one has it's own flight model. If you had a 20 core system, each one would use it's own core. It's a improvement, coming from XP9, but a big step back from FS2004/FSX.

Keep in mind, Austin has said that 20 Ai aircraft is a limitation he's seeking to raise, but has to investigate how to do it without sacrificing the fidelity of the AI flight models. I hope to see 100+ AC locally by end of XP10 run, but nothing is guaranteed except that he will look at it as time allows. Figuring out current bottlenecks and eliminating them to improve overall performance must come at a premium compared to additional feature improvements elsewhere. At least this version HAS AI and ATC as both were sorely lacking in previous versions and have kept me flying other sims. XP has always been a great sim with much potiential, Austin and his goals being the driving force behind development and direction. I just hope that he doesn't get complacent with a feature that a majority of the users feel needs revamping. He's done a great job so far and is at least open to ideas for discussion whereas the Microsoft machine is relatively embedded in soundproof bunkers.

Thansk for your answers woweezowee ans TomSorry Aron. I never intend to be rude, whine for more features or hurt anyone's feelings. It's just that my previous knowledge from this simulator is from one hour try with version 5 back in the days so I need to start from scratch building my knowledge. I thought in the days of social media it would be ok to find information by discussing about the sim and inevitable to compare it to what I already have. But if this kind of topic is taboo I stop it here and sit tight and wait to see what the future holds for X-Plane.

The truth is a short answer: If this is your priority no. 1, than you will wait at least one more year (just a guess) until the ATC/AI system has been further improved or a third party offers something suitable for your needs. And even then I highly doubt there will be a possibility to just carry over what you have in FS9.Yes. You have to start from scratch. You can only decide for yourself if all the other features are worth this effort.

I just don't understand why they are going to so much trouble to apply a true flight model to the AI aircraft. Having a good flight model is a noble idea, but the penalty (one AI per CPU) is no where near the reward (beautiful flight model that you'll only ever notice if you're holding short and watching an arrival or departure). I think there should have been a much bigger compromise. The AI aircraft in FS do some weird stuff, like porpoising on takeoff, not flaring on landing, zig zagging at cruise, but I can have bunches of them on the ground and in the air, and I think that's better.Just my opinion; yours may differ...James
