November 28, 201114 yr Hi,I posted the following thread subject "No network access to anything on FSX computer", and got one reply but the suggestion did not work. I have decided to do away with the wireless and see if I can connect my client and fsx machine together with a cable.Any help on doing so would be much appreciated.RegardsBob Officially retired
November 28, 201114 yr Moderator A simple google.com search with the keywords connect two computers via ethernet will return many links with exact instructions, including some "video tutorials."https://www.google.com/search?q=connect+two+computers+via+ethernet&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7ACEW_enHere is a highly detailed, step-by-step explanation. November 28, 201114 yr Author Thanks Father,I did search but I usually get conflicting info and then I get frustrated as to which path to take. Since I need internet access for both computers, I will still need to have the usb wireless units in place. I think this may complicate the issue but not sure. My thought was that if the current issue is with the RG, then maybe I could just bypass that and use the lan boards instead. I will read your link, and again thank you!!!RegardsBob Officially retired
December 15, 201114 yr As near as I can tell, your problem is strictly Windows related and I think your network was working. Here is a script you can customize and use to do some diagnostics. Also other pages on this guy's site are good at explaining various network/sharing problems.http://networking.nitecruzr.net/2005/05/cdiag-comprehensive-diagnosis-source.htmlscott s..
December 22, 201114 yr As I remembered, you can using straight through cables to connect 2 computers. I'm not sure if my suggestion is right in you situation. Try to search in networking forums, maybe they could help.________________________________________________business tips | health sources | cheap flights
December 31, 201114 yr If you want to connect two like components (e.g. switch to switch, hub to hub, computer to computer) it is necessary to use a crossover cable; a standard ethernet cable will not work.
December 31, 201114 yr Author Thanks much for the input. The reason I wanted to do this is I could not get the wireless for the FSX computer working. NO standard sharing nor homegroup would work. I could see the folders that were shared, but could not open them. I went round and round for over a week, including a complete new Win7 64 bit install. I decided to change the security type on the wireless device and presto, I had access. What was interesting though was after I rebooted the security type was reset to it's original values, and it still worked. Go figure. Networking is almost like snake oil to me. Thanks for your input all!Bob Officially retired
