Ultimate Traffic 2 in P3D V2.3 ?
How is UT2's performance impact? I've been using Traffic360 in 2.2, and it will run with no problems, but the performance is horrible (70% fps loss at heavy airports). It's my understanding that this is because the models are killing performance, and that no traffic addon has models that will not kill P3D performance. Can anybody comment on this?

Academic Licence
I have both the 737 and 777, but there are a number of aircraft available that are at least equal, perhaps better. Many of them are also not the aeronautical equivalent of driving a city bus, and require more knowledge than running an FMS to fly. That's not to say that's how all PMDG pilots fly, but it's how many of the phanbois do, and it's frustrating when they ask when things like the VRS Superbug will be made more realistic (i.e. have a Honeywell FMS installed in it). The world of aviation is so much bigger than that; many pilots consider airline flying to be the absolute worst of it.

Trouble With Latest Nvidia Drivers & P3Dv2?
ramrunner800 replied to jtwhite's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcThere is a problem with the 340.52 driver in P3D v2. Disabling tessellation or rolling back are workarounds for this issue.

Dx-10 Without The Fixer
Now that Steve's DX-10 fixer is no longer available for purchase, is there a route that we can follow to switch to DX-10? I have really been thinking of doing it lately, and was quite dismayed to see the fixer disappear.

Most Recommended OS for FSX?
It is very unsafe to run a computer with Windows XP on it. Please do not even consider doing it, unless the system will never be used on the internet, or plugged into a network with other machines that are. Edit: Also, I can wholeheartedly recommend 7 64-bit.

770 4GB vs. 780
For use in P3Dv2, is a 4GB 770 or a 780 with 3GB a better option. Both have apparent upsides, but does anybody have experience with what works out better in actual usage?

SLI load splitting
I believe Lockheed has advised that you will see better multimonitor performance by plugging one monitor into each GPU. From Beau at LM: If you have multiple monitors and multiple views, then you'll generally be better off driving a display from each video card than using SLI. If you have 2 cards and 1 monitor than it's worth giving SLI a shot. http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=6352 Also, to enable SLI for P3D you need to use the AFR-FriendlyD3D trick Beau posted in the same thread. Bear in mind, this causes some breakage of the sim because Lockheed haven't coded the sim to buffer resources that persist from frame to frame in the separate threads GPU yet (they have said this is coming). In my sim I notice this only in special effects like vapor on the wing tips of fast moving jets.

Light versions to suite the Academic version / License of P3D...
How can you possibly not have something better to do?

PC Pilot Magazine and P3D v2
I scoured the cover of PC Pilot, and nary a word about home entertainment appeared. There was quite a bit there about flight simulation on PC's. I think Avsim should use a program automatically ban any user who utters the words "home entertainment" or "EULA" in the same post as the words "P3D" or "Prepar3D". That horse has been flogged to a death worthy of Game of Thrones.

ASN causing altimeter failure?
I haven't seen your specific issue, but it's always good to make sure you're running the proper version. You are running version B5210, correct?

V2.2 SLI really IS worth the money
I used this and saw about a 50% increase in frame rates using a GTX 590 on my single monitor. There were a few graphical anomalies, but as Beau explained in the Lockheed forum, certain effects persist frame to frame, so using Alternate Frame Rendering (the method of SLI this hack uses) breaks some things; some issues were to be expected. I'm very excited to hear how close full SLI support and optimization are, and to see what two high VRAM GPU's will be able to push through the sim.

P3D v2.2 with Active Sky Next- Historical weather
I don't have cloud shadows turned on, and I am experiencing absolutely no issues with ASN and heavy weather. I have increased the number of cloud layers and draw distance considerably. These are the best IMC conditions I've ever flown in. I've not tried heavy weather with cloud shadows enabled because I was experiencing such a performance drop with them enabled in light weather. The cloud shadows definitely seem to be killing a lot of people's performance, but hopefully something like sli or high amounts of VRAM can address this.

p3D v2.2 Poor Frame Rate. Dropped to 17 from 68 FPS.
Those are REALLY high cloud settings. I have a pretty high end system, and going from No Could Shadows-10k set's me back from 40 all the way to 10-15 when all my other settings are pretty high. Most other posts I've read where people are getting good performance are only using 10k. You just need to work your sliders, and temper your expectations.

p3D v2.2 Poor Frame Rate. Dropped to 17 from 68 FPS.
What are your cloud shadow settings? If your system suddenly jumps from mapping no cloud shadows, to suddenly mapping a ton of them, I think that would be explanatory. I've not seen anybody be able to claim the sim can run beyond anything but the lowest cloud shadow settings.

p3D v2.2 Poor Frame Rate. Dropped to 17 from 68 FPS.
That doesn't seem like a bug, that's a setting that's really hard any system. I find that in order to have the clouds on, I need to make sacrifices in other areas.

CNN Mentions FSX used by Malaysian Cpt.
I wonder what investigators think they will find on his sim? Maybe he saved his flight plan to the middle of the Indian Ocean

Navigraph claims I pirated them, gave them proof I didn't, still took my money.
I think that was a pretty reasonable stance taken by Navigraph. They reserved their right to protect their product from piracy, but clearly recognized that their policy had damaged a customer and compensated that customer. Definitely improves my opinion of them.

You would think that companies these days would realize what stories like this will do to their reputations. Aerosoft ought to send Navigraph a thank you letter.

So is this what to expect with P3D v2 add-on pricing?
If iFly had to do work to make their already developed product work properly in P3D then I think it's reasonable to charge more. But if they're charging more for that license they had better also be providing support in P3D. If certain features don't function in P3D, which it seems like it could happen, then by releasing a separate license with separate pricing they are creating a responsibility for themselves to fix it.

Modern USAF Aircraft Add-ons - Disappointed
I can recommend the Iris F-15E with the M2M avionics upgrade. I've only had it for a week, but I'm starting to get further into it's systems. I can also vouch for the Superbug and Tacpack. The F-15E will be Tacpack compatible soon, and M2M is also working on making a variant for DCS. There definitely much military interest on Avism, this is a pretty MSFS-centric forum. Most military simmers want to fight, and FSX doesn't lend itself easily to that. I much prefer it to DCS and Falcon though, because the whole world is available, and the visuals are far superior. PM me if you ever wanna link up for multiplayer flight; military aircraft are always more fun to fly with others.

I just remembered that there's a really nice freeware KMRY in the file library as well. Makes for a good little cross country sortie.
