So is this what to expect with P3D v2 add-on pricing?

Featured Replies

Hello all, as kevinc5 mentioned a while back, ifFly 737 is 54.99 for FSX and 79.99 for their P3D v2. It also clearly states :"does not include any additional features compared to the FSX entertainment version.".

Will this set a precedent for developers to take advantage of a (supposedly) superior flight sim and thus, pricing their products as if those also become superior products?

Where is the rationale for this pricing? Unless it is a LM license issue that costs developers more, I would really like to know why and if this is what to expect going forward.

This is simply how it works... The price of software doesn't depend on its actual value or on how complicated it is or how much time it took to create it, but on the market it has been created for. So in that regard it isn't odd that P3D v2 addons cost more. I think you will be even more shocked by the prices PMDG will be asking for their P3D versions (although that's just a wild guess).

As usual: vote with your wallet. As soon as I saw the higher price, I decided not to buy the iFly bird.

Also, I am not buying anything that won't work with P3D2.

We can decide.

I love the smell of price gouging in the morning.

I think complex add on developers are going to attempt to drain us dry with the P3D license. iFly is just the first one to be honest about it.

(Of course this based on nothing but assumption for P3D addons in the future)

Don't be too hard on iFly. I suspect they may be trying to protect themselves from the increased exposure  to litigation since many people who use it for P3D could use it for training purposed not for recreation. I do not think it gouging and I suspect you will see other addons increase their prices for P3D for the same reason.

Hello,

It comes down to what the market will bear, if it wasn't selling at $79.99 the price would have been reduced by now. The only way we can "try" and somewhat control pricing as consumers in this niche market is with our wallet. A $25.00 increase for the iFly 737 series aircraft I find to be reasonable.

But there will be those that will jump on a new product irregardless of price and that will lock out those who cannot afford the higher price.

If there is a reasonable increase in price, I will purchase.... Why, because I'm sure changes have to be made (in regards to aircraft) to support the new (for lack of a better word) format of P3Dv2 and that cost money. One can hardly expect the company to absorb the cost, it will be passed on the the consumer.

I'm sure, companies that support P3D have come to realize that there are different (Pro+, Pro, Academic,) versions. Hence, I'm sure we will see different prices accordingly. Well, at least I hope so :Straight Face:

Every FSX Add-on that is released for P3DV2 will be a lot more expensive than FSX version because of EULA. I think in PMDG's case they are going to release the NGX and T7 as familiarization products so they comply with the requirements of a professional product and not a video game for entertainment purposes only and still can say that they are not for professional training use. They are using semantics to create a middle ground. I posted in another thread; let’s see if the NGX for P3DV2 doesn't cost less than $200. I got a whole bunch of dislikes and disagrees. It hurt my feeling. NOT!

Well, not every one. Milviz has already set the price for the forthcoming KingAir 350i to be the same for either FSX or P3Dv2, or for $20 more, one will be able to be licensed for both sim versions.

1. Developer's can't gouge us because we don't have to buy anything

2. Charging a much higher premium for P3D v2 products will just lead to more piracy. This is just a known fact in the gaming world. Cheaper software = less piracy.

3. Charging more for P3D v2 products will lead to people buying fewer add-ons.

4. A developer may not be maximizing their profit by charging a high amount. Selling 1000 units at $30 is better than selling 400 at $60. The price developer's decide to sell their products at should be based strictly on what will maximize their profits.

This is all so weird. We, the simming community, are obviously the targets of these products. What flight school, airline or FBO is going to use an iFly (I'm not picking on iFly in particular here) product to teach real-world ATP pilots? Come on folks, get serious! They have been targeting us as their customers from the start! That is even more clear now that the EULA has (thankfully) been changed.

I'm sure that they are also targeting the big boys, but they will use big boy level versions of software that cost far more than what we are willing to pay.
