FSX best on SSD or HD with two drive system?

Featured Replies

I am purchasing a system with a 256 GB SSD and 1 TB hard drive.Given the huge size of FS X in terms of GB with all the add ons etc. I would prefer not to use up a good chunk of the SSD for the game. It also makes backup images of the SSD somewhat ponderous. All other things being equal would I expect to see any major difference in FSX performance if I load it onto the hard drive instead of the SSD drive?ThanksGreg

SSD will ONLY improve loading times...AND texture load speeds (I THINK0But seriously, the loading is easily 5 times faster on an SSD than an HDD.

I have a 2TB HD and an SSD that is used as a cache which translates into a very smooth sim experience IMO.

I considered getting a Z68 BUT, I think that it is bad for an SSD to have "cache" written to the disk constantly. Seems like it would rapidly degrade the disk itself.

Not really: The SSD FirmWare implements sophisticated load balancing so the SSD wears out evenly. Consider the many laptops that are sold today with only an SSD and no HDD.Cheers,- jahman.
