Red marking on PFD. What does it mean ?

Featured Replies

Hey,sorry to be noobish here, but I'm seeing red bars on my PFD (see screenshot). What is it trying to tell me ?Can't find anything wrong... no warning lights, IRS is aligned...Thanks

Well it's the first time it's doing that to me... I had a few dozen flights with it and it's the first time...btw: my failures are off...

It means you've been radar-locked by an enemy fighter jet. Time to turn on your shields and set phasers to kill!!!

That's the TCAS issuing an RA ( RESOLUTION ADVISORY) command. Are you running the TCAS test?

nope, I'm not, perhaps I should run it?

hmm, good question. My TFC button is pressed so I'm seeing the range bars on my radar scanning for traffic. How do I know if I'm in TCAS test (which button/switch should I look for) ?thanks

Mathieu Souphy

Well you don't have a traffic alert on your ND, try turning the TCAS off then on again to see if it clears.

Ryan Syferd (KSEA)

cool; will give that a try...thanks:)))

Simon

TCAS test switch is a button in the middle of the transponder mode switch.

nope, it doesn't... was like this when I took of to be honest... I noticed it during taxi but since I saw no other warnings I assumed it was safe to takeoff

Well looking at that screenshot it looks as if the PFD is stuck in a TCAS TEST cycle. No idea why it would do that, and I've yet to see it on my flts other then when running the test. Maybe a PMDG. support question.

Nothing changes when I press the TCAS test button (not hearing fail or pass either). And apart from the range bars on the ND switching, nothing happens on the PFD when pressing the TFC button...bug ?

Ok thanks, will do a complete panel reload from CLD&DRK when I park it at my destination to see if it clears it.Must say I have been switching aircraft quite a lot before leaving the gate as I was playing along with the panel.cfg to fit in FSACARS and the new ActiveSky2012 XGauge in there. So I switched aircraft a few times to refresh my panel.cfg entries.

Mathieu Souphy

Yeah id try that. Load a cold and dark panel and go from there..

Think I found it.While making panel adjustments, I removed all Windowxx entries in the panel.cfg (except for the first 3 or so ones), which I used for the CDU, FSACARS and XGAUGE. I did this because I do not need all the other popup windows, as I only fly in VC mode. However, I think that Window20, with the name "Logic", is a special window and is needed for some display logic to work. I have a suspicion that the TCAS is part of that window. After I restored the original panel.cfg file it worked again, and just replaced Window03 and Window04 with the FSACARS and XGauge info, and leaving all other windows alone, it works again. So moral of the story... don't tamper too much with complex aircraft panel.cfg's :-) Especially not deleting things you're not sure of.Lesson learnt.
