December 21, 201114 yr A fab shrink alone increases clock because as gate size is reduced, the inductance and capacitance of the gate is also reduced, thus requiring a lower voltage at equal clock. This is basic physics.TriGate increases gate current slew rate and reduces gate current leakage (because the electric field controlling source to drain current is now 3D rather than 2D and is thus much more effective), thus reducing gate heat dissipation, the enemy of high clock rates. The 22 nm fab shrink together with TriGate means you will be able to OC to SB frequencies but at lower voltages, thus leaving headroom to further increase voltage and OC to beyond what is feasible with SB.Cheers,- jahman.

Will SB voltages harm the new lower voltage IB? December 21, 201114 yr BUT. Will SB voltages harm the new lower voltage IB? That is the question.A good question. An indication might be how limit voltages fared with previous fab shrinks.Cheers,- jahman.
December 21, 201114 yr The million dollar question. We won't really have any clue of IB's OC abilities until benchmarks are leaked and even those will be questionable. Previous fab shrinks are a good indication, but 32nm to 22nm is a big jump percentage-wise, not to mention Trigate brings additional complications. How soon before SB release did we know it would OC to 4.5 or 4.8? Looking on the web, it appears the whole "SB OC'd to 5GHz on air" article hit barely over a month prior to release. The question right now should be when are we going to find out how well Ivy Bridge overclocks? December 21, 201114 yr Author BUT. Will SB voltages harm the new lower voltage IB? That is the question.Very good question. I'd honestly love to know.I feel inclined to think that because of the newer gen of chips, the voltage can be pushed higher. But, I am probably wrong....IDK what you guys are even talking about most of the time! haha
December 21, 201114 yr The million dollar question.Nah, it is worth at least a billion dollars ($1,000,000,000.00). :im Not Worthy:Kind regards,
