December 22, 201114 yr Hi everyone I just purchased a new computer primarily for FSX and for listening to music, watching movies etc, I am going to set it up over Christmas. As I have not even switched the computer on for the first time (although Windows 7 is preinstalled) I am interested in the correct procedure for setting up the computer and installing FSX so it is optimized for performance.I will be installing FSX, Acceleration etc. I will also be using REX V2 the Level D 767, Maddog MD-82, CS 727, 707 and C130 and I hope to buy the PMDG 737NGX soon. I have also heard about ENB, shade etc (any must have addons?).I have CH pedals, yoke and various joysticks, is FSUIPC registered version a recommended requirement to get the hardware operating the best within FSX?I will also install itunes and Norton 360 hopefully ASAP.As I have been only focused on FS2004 I am not aware of the procedures, tweaking things, frame rate limiters? etc.If anyone has any time to explain the best way of setting up the computer from the moment I turn it on and to setting up FSX as I want it to be perfect from the start. OR if there is a comprehensive thread, topic etc that covers this could someone please direct me to it (so I don't waste anyone's time). My system specs are:ASUS P8Z68-V Intel Z68 DDR3 USB3+SATA3 Raid SLI+ CrossFire LGA1155 PCI-EIntel Core i5 2500K Sandy Bridge 3.30GHz 6MB 95W LGA1155Mushkin Blackline FrostByte 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3-1600 CL9 (993995)EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX560 Ti DS Superclocked 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E (01G-P3-1567-KR)CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU CoolerSeagate Barracuda 1TB ST31000524AS 32MB 6Gb/s SATA3Corsair TX650 V2 Enthusiast Series Power SupplyLG GH24NS70 24X DVD Writer SATA OEMLian-Li LanCool Dragonlord PC-K62B Mid Tower w/WindowWindows 7 Home Premium 64Bit That is all I can think of now - And I really appreciate any input. Thanks
December 22, 201114 yr Moderator Use NickN's guide over at Simforums.com. It's pinned in the Ground Environment section. Follow it to a tee and you should get good results. You can also use *******'s, aka. Bojote, web based cfg tweaker if your in need of more performance after using Nick's guide. I would do Nicks guide first to get a good solid setup before you tweak further. If you want someone to do the majority of the setup and tweaking for you if your less interested in doing it all yourself, you could use a pay service like FS-GS and let them do it for you over the course of about 6 hours.Good luck :-) Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 22, 201114 yr Nice looking system there, congrats!+1 on following NickN's guide for installing FSX. I would also highly recommend you updated the video card to the latest drivers from Nividia, 285.62 , download Nvidia Inspector, and follow his guide and settings for using Nvidia Inspector if you don't already. As far as the new system, I would suggest you take a look at all the programs that startup each time you boot into Windows 7. Oftentimes on a store bought system, the mfg preloads it with a lot of stuff to start automatically with windows. You can check this by looking in the startup folder in the start/all programs menu, or by using msconfig, or my preference using the Autoruns app provided by sysinternals. I like to keep my system as lean as possible. Also, I am assuming that system has probably the one hard drive since only one is listed, I would also suggest that you install FSX outside the C:ProgramFiles folder. Installing into that folder, which is the default folder once you start setup, may cause you grief down the road. You can install it to just C: Microsoft, or imho better yet would be to create another partition for FSX before you start installing all your programs - I have a partition dedicated just to FSX, on a seperate hard drive actually.Hope this helps, have fun and enjoy that new system!
