December 29, 201114 yr Guys, trying to map the alt/vs push button on the Carenado Bonanza to a rotary enoder (it has push button) on my bu0836x card, and can't find it in the Buttons:Adv section under Joystick and Equipment. Can someone tell me what this is listed as.Glen Gigabyte z590 UD - i5 11600k 4.9 GHz - 64gb 3600 MHz ram - RTX 3070 ti - multiple ssd - 34" 3440x1440 100 Hz Curved - Saitek Yoke Pedals Throttle Quadrant x2 - TM T16000m x2 Throttle - Win 11 Pro
December 31, 201114 yr Author Solved...You can't load the panel in Plane-maker ??, takes a bit of time to find what was used. January 1, 201214 yr MuskokaI am also planning on adding the bu0836x card to XPX, did you get it directly from Bodnar in the UK? have you managed to assign the GNS430 and rotary encoders to it? though he doesn't list win7x64 as supported OS, do you have that working?tnx
January 1, 201214 yr Author Hi, yes, I bought it direct from Leo. I didn't assign any control to the GNS430, although it wouldn't be a problem as long as you know what the switch/knob is called in XPX. I run a dual boot set-up Win7 64bit and Ubuntu 11.1 64bit. I installed XPX in both os's and have to say I was not the least bit happy with the way XPX ran in Ubuntu. It looks way better visually, and runs much smoother in Win7. The only reason I mention this here is that the card was not an issue to set-up in Win7 (as long as you know the names of the knobs/switches), but in Ubuntu it worked, but every toggle switch and rotary encoder conflicted with something on my Saitek equipment. It was a pain in the you know what, and due to the fact that XPX doesn't run near as smooth in Linux as it does in Win7, I gave up.I'm also just getting started myself. Here's a picture of my simple set-up. No separate push buttons yet, just toggle switches and rotary encoders as you can see. The encoders are push button as well, I'm going to set them up to toggle the alt / vs knob on the Carenado Bonanza. I actually have to buy another card, there's a lot more I want to hook up. These are the rotary encoders I'm using, cheap and work fine. http://www.ebay.ca/i...=item1c223dad96With how awkward the mouse controls are in XPX, it sure is nice to have physical knobs to dial stuff in, way less frustrating. I've only had it set-up for a couple of weeks, and already I can just glance at the board while watching where I'm going to change headings and altitudes, totally changes the feel of the simulator. If you have more questions, ask, I'll help anyway I can.Glen Gigabyte z590 UD - i5 11600k 4.9 GHz - 64gb 3600 MHz ram - RTX 3070 ti - multiple ssd - 34" 3440x1440 100 Hz Curved - Saitek Yoke Pedals Throttle Quadrant x2 - TM T16000m x2 Throttle - Win 11 Pro
January 1, 201214 yr thanks and congratulations on your hardware project, this is exactly what I had in mind!"With how awkward the mouse controls are in XPX, it sure is nice to have physical knobs to dial stuff in"absolutely. a real XPX design flaw in my opinion, the only way around this is via external hardware, as you did it.Don't you want rotaries for NAV, COM, ADF, VORs and HSI as well?how did you end up assigning which buttons to the autopilot ALT and V/S ? I have that same Carenado B33.I am not sure all GNS430 functions are available via external buttons, will have to try with joystick buttons first. the same problem as with all other XPX dials plus entering the alphanumerics, nearly impossible during flight via mouse. :Shocked:I guess we need a XPX hardware forum.
January 1, 201214 yr Author Don't you want rotaries for NAV, COM, ADF, VORs and HSI as well?Ya, that's why I need another card :( . I've used 26 of the 32 available. Would also like to make my own Trim wheel, could probably turn a rotary encoder sideways and put some sort of wheel on it?? The options are endless if you have enough space and cards.Glenedit:how did you end up assigning which buttons to the autopilot ALT and V/S ? I have that same Carenado B33.Here is a screenshot of the assignments in XPX. My rotary encoders have push button as well, so I'm going to assign them to the respective push buttons on the encoders. Push the "alt" rotary encoder and the ap display changes to "alt", push the "vs" encoder and the ap display changes to "vs", hope that's what you were asking? January 1, 201214 yr or you could use a potentiometer that has more than 360* rotation...set it as trim axis in the options and rotate to the stops for configurationUse a circular whole saw or lathe if you have one to cut a circular wheel then sand the edges rounded or use a router to round the edges. 1/4"-3/8" depending on the material you use. MDF is strong and doesn't wobble even at thin sizes. Or model one in clay, make a mold of it, then use an epoxy resin in the mold to make a final copy. Aaron
January 1, 201214 yr Author Yes, much better than a rotary encoder. I'll have to head to town tomorrow to see what I can find.Glen Gigabyte z590 UD - i5 11600k 4.9 GHz - 64gb 3600 MHz ram - RTX 3070 ti - multiple ssd - 34" 3440x1440 100 Hz Curved - Saitek Yoke Pedals Throttle Quadrant x2 - TM T16000m x2 Throttle - Win 11 Pro
January 1, 201214 yr Do you hardware types have any advice for me?I have an elite avionics panel 2000-beautiful unit with lots of buttons. They made a driver for fs that communicated with it from my understanding thru fsuipc. For some reason they are not supporting it in xplane, and it is driving me crazy not to be able to use it.I do have the fsuipc xplane clone installed as a plugin-anyone have any advice on how to get it to work in xplane? January 1, 201214 yr Geofayou must be a wealthy man, I remember they were very expensive (2.000 $ ?) and I always wanted one for "elite" because they looked robust.if it outputs USB joystick buttons it might work. you might want to check with Pete Dowson from FSUIPC if he is familiar with their output format.See, FSX wins again (first XPX-FSX flame war 2012) ... January 1, 201214 yr It was about $600 when I bought it so my choice may be to sell it and make a profit now! Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
January 1, 201214 yr Author Geof, don't know if this helps. The toggle switch was set to the left with no markings. I flipped it to the right, labeled PFC, and everything began working like a champ. I make the assumption that the toggle to the left is to work with Elite, as that is the software that shipped with the unit. It's from this thread http://forum.simflight.com/topic/65303-do-i-have-to-purchase-to-use-this/page__p__412874__hl__+elite%20+avionics__fromsearch__1#entry412874, third post down, don't know if your unit has this switch or not. Seems like you have to take either a front or back panel off to see?Glen Gigabyte z590 UD - i5 11600k 4.9 GHz - 64gb 3600 MHz ram - RTX 3070 ti - multiple ssd - 34" 3440x1440 100 Hz Curved - Saitek Yoke Pedals Throttle Quadrant x2 - TM T16000m x2 Throttle - Win 11 Pro

January 1, 201214 yr Author Geof, have you seen this.
