December 31, 201114 yr I'm very new to all this and having spent quite a few hours reading I've still not really got a definitive answer.I am looking for the best 737 simulator with multi crew experience. When I say best, I really mean something that will allow one to learn everything there is to learn about the 737 whilst also having the ability to practice in a multi crew environment, i.e SOP's. From what I understand, it seems as though I can buy a product such FS2Crew and set it up so that I can practice a specific airlines SOP's and it would be as though you are running a real airline operation? Can anyone tell me which version of Flight Sim I require FS9 or FSX, which 737 (I originally thought PMDG 737NGX until I saw the iFLY FS2crew videos on youtube) and any other relevant hardware/software, e.g. I saw the trackIR 5 and that's something I would be interested in. What I'm not really interested in is external graphics, livery add ons or even flight deck graphics...amazing as the PMDG 737NGX videos look! I just want an easy hassle free simple install that works and allows me to practice SOP's and learn about the 737 systems etc. Oh and can I switch seats and become pilot monitoring or pilot flying?Any help and advice greatly appreciated.Happy new year to all! Cheers
January 1, 201214 yr Author Hi and happy new year!I am planning to use a machine built by a friend, my knowledge is somewhat limited but I can tell you it has an Intel Pentium ® D CPU 3.00Ghz , 2.5gb RAM and a GeForce 9800GTX+ 512mb and 1102mhz. It's currently running XP with SP2 but I do have acopy of windows 7 I can load onto it.I have no idea if my hardware is up to scratch but if not then I am willing to purchase a new machine if needs be. What sort of money do I need to spend (£) ?Cheers, Mike
January 1, 201214 yr Author Okay so looking at iFly's 737 with FS2crew it says:System Requirements:Flight Simulator X w/Service Pack 2 (SP2)2.6 Mhz Quad-Core Processor2 GB of disk space4GB RAM512 MB Video CardWindows XP / Vista / Win7Looks like I'm low on RAM and the Dual Core processor might not cut it?
January 1, 201214 yr Commercial Member How old is your computer exactly? My advice. With FSX, you're really pushing it with those system specs... You'll probably need to keep your sliders left.Dump XP and install Windows 7 64 bits. It handles memory better than XP, and comes with a better version of the Speech API if you plan on doing Voice Control. If using 'Button' control, it makes no difference since the Speech API isn't a factor.FS2Crew does not allow you to be become the Pilot Monitoring... You're limited to being the Pilot Flying... for the obvious reason that the simulated crew members can't "see" of enough of their environment to be able to fly the plane by themselves from A to B.Would be nice, though. January 1, 201214 yr Author Hi Bryan, thanks for your input. I've decided it's probably best to buy a new machine! Started a new thread here http://forum.avsim.net/topic/358273-spec-me-a-machine-please/I've purchased the iFly FS2crew bundle and audio ground school in anticipation. Is there a time limit with regards to when I have to download the files as I'm using my mac right now. Cheers, Mike
