What happened in May, 2009?

Featured Replies

According to Wikipedia, AVSIM was hacked on May 12, 2009. Obviously I was not apart of the community yet, so I don't remember. It must have felt HORRIBLE for all the simmers here, such a great website being brought down by some idiot. Besides, out of all the websites in the world you can hack in, why AVSIM? Why not Google? :Phbbbt:Anyway, just a thought.

Apparently there was some squabbling in house. A tech got ticked off at Tom and the rest is history!I remember the temporary forum that was put up. What a busy cluster that was!

Oh I see. What ever happened to the hacker? Was the case dismissed?

Let's just say the case was dropped because of what happened to the hacker. Tom can explain more if he wishes.

Oh, I see. But most of the data seemed to be recovered, which is great.

Thanks to the loyal members here. 2 servers wiped out, and no viable back-up had been done. I t hink old T.A. pi$$ed off the wrong boy! Somebody's GOT to tell me what happened, if only cryptically: What happened to the hacker?? Did Tom beat him up or something?BTW, I've been wanting to ask this for a while: does any one have a screen shot, or a .jpg of the old forums? I can't even remember what it looked like?

Well I think now they should have some better protection in place. People always learn from their mistakes. And does Tom run this website at his house or does he have like a hosting service (Go Daddy, etc.)?

Guys,I don't know much about this criminal affair but until further notice from Tom, this is not yet a closed case so I prefer to lock this thread and not keep going over this sensitive topic for the moment. The only thing I can say is that thanks to your generosity and concern, thanks to the tech guys @ Avsim, thanks to our common work we are here again today sharing our passion. Thanks for understanding :-)
