Rain from blue sky AS2012

Featured Replies

I bought AS2012 short after release and was very happy with it. Since I fly online most of the time I use real weather and the weather was fair most of the time; no real challenge for a weather engine. Today we have strong winds, rain and dark sky.I flew from LSZH to EDDM. I used the flightplan feature in AS2012 and preloaded the the weather along the route. It rained in LSZH out of broken sky with a lot of blue patches. Along the route I could quite often see the ground ( I think that's a known issue. But the approach in Munich was a real dissapointment; real metar said 230/32ktG46kt and I landed at 230/4kt. :sad:How can that be? I also noticed that saving weather conditions does not work correctly; visibility, icing conditions get not saved. Before AS2012 I used REX and FSrealWXlite (freeware) and must say that such a wrong metar interpretation never happened. I hope for a SP soon because overall I like AS2012 a lot.Peter

Along the same lines, I tweaked a metar for my destination to include broken thunderstorm (Cb) clouds with SEVERE turbulence and high level icing and set it for a 100nm range. When I had flown within range I got the turbulence alright but instead of thunderstorm clouds FSX was displaying fair weather scattered Cumulus! I went back to desktop and reconfirmed the metar and the map view agreed but FSX would not display. I checked the log file and it indicated that broken Cb had been sent to FSX. I verified that there were no sim connect errors in the log file! Also noted that AS2012 changes the cloud cover in the metar over time even if I am flying offline with static historic weather. It usually degrages Cumulus to Stratus and Cumulonimbus to Cumulus. No such issues with ASE.

Another test today. LOWI-EDDS, AS2012 generates weather for the route. As I use AivlaSoft EFB so I can view the metars in my EFB displayunit.I got very strange results. AS2012 metar VMC, broken clouds, dry, QNH 1015; FSX metar (should be the same as AS2012, because this is loaded into FSX) limited VMC,dry, QNH 1010; direct download NOAA metar, IMC, snow, QNH 1009 :( I checked a direct weather source LOWI, NOAA was correct. There must either something completely wrong with my setup and/or the AS2012 weatherengine. I could file a support ticket, but I rather think that this is a more general problem and hope that Damian et al will look at this.Peter

I understand that the "rain-problem" is a known issue, but that I get 3 different metars is a bit strange.
