Cheapest computer to run FS9/X well

Featured Replies

As we know FS9/X has been out for sometime now. I'm looking to see if a run of the mil laptop sold at walmart etc will run this game no prob maxed out with a few addons such as PMDG 737 etc. I've been out of flight sim for sometime but I'm looking to get back into it. Thanks for any info!

What laptop? A laptop wouldn't be a good choice to run FSX, that's for sure. Running the MSFS series well on a mobile platform requires expensive, higher end hardware. What's the budget? I'm going to assume building your own is out of the question.

The problem with laptops is that they have puny video cards. I had to buy a new power supply for my desktop to run just the video card for FSX. That stuff is hard to do with a laptop.

Interesting..well I know this is bad but only got about $600 to blow on a desktop. You know one of the "run of the mill" models at Walmart etc. Not sure if that will perform ok?

Hmm. The answer is no, but I'd probably be able to build you one for that using my older i7 960 and motherboard that would blow any crap Wal-Mart's computer away... Sorry, just laying it out there for you. If you've got $600 to blow, it shouldn't be spent on some junk from Wal-Mart. Just my opinion. For instance: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.755235See what can be had for that much if you avoid Wally World and go to specialty shops? I could do much better than the link I put there, but that's just to prove a point that I found it in 30 seconds!

I would not recommend a laptop for FSX. For the price of a midrange laptop you can buy a much more powerful desktop that would be good for FSX but still won't run FSX maxed out at 30 fps all the time. I don't think there is a high-end PC that can run FSX maxed out at 30 fps all the time that is not overclocked. I'd recommend something with at least an i5 2500 (k-series if you overclock), 8GB RAM, and a GTX 460 for FSX which should be around the price of a mid-range laptop. You might want at least a GTX 560 if you play other games at 1080p. If you need a laptop for work and portability, then I suggest to buy a low end one such as one with a i3 2330 and 4GB RAM and build a desktop for FS9/FSX. I seen a laptop with that hardware for around $380-$400.

No. No. No.Like, a huge no.It's hard to get that on a desktop, less on the notebook. With such a low budget, what you need is a budget computer, with least as possible, but core components strong: processor, and somewhat GPU. Take a cheap MSI or ASRock mobo, stick 2500K in it, get an aftermarket cooler (cheaper one), overclock the 2500K to some 4.4-4.5Ghz, stick 560ti in it, go easy on the settings and you'll be alright.Do not buy all-in-one PCs, they suck for gaming big time.Something like this + 560ti:http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.644166

Agree with everyone above, no laptop can do that, never mind a run of the mil one. In fact... good luck building a desktop that can do that, it's possible but takes more reading than spending!
