The newest US East Coast LOD9 mesh terrrain

Featured Replies

Has anyone installed and tested it yet. It appears to be another great contribution to our hobby. But, is it an improvement over any other LOD 9 mesh for the region, either free or payware? As I pointed at flightsim in another discussion, perhaps we need some sort of clearing house to sort out the flood of new software additions...this is no disrespect to creators, whose work and effort I respect. But, there are times when overlaps create some unattended problems. I guess this and other forums are the place to work these things out. This is not a rant...at least I hope it's not taken that way.Sherm

ShermI tried it and it seems to have added new life to an area that used to look like Saskatchewan. I have not found any errors the lakes and airport heights are normal and everything appears as it should. As far as I can see MR Gainer has enhanced FS9 with this product. Nice JOB!! RobFlying High over New York state and enjoying the viewDon

There is one other similar, however its 160 megs and uses 1 min data.I thought expanding the area, plus lowering the file size ( why I used 3 min data ) would be nice.My file is 62 megs. Both tho are good...Ive seen the 1 min data, and it looks great.Guess the choice is up to the user.Which is nice in Freeware Land : )Rob GainerThx Don for the Kind Words...yes I enjoy NYC as well..and the whole east for that matter...the mesh JUMPS at ya now...

No rant taken !I see your point 100%And is a very good idea, the reply really to your question Ive just posted to Don.Thx Sherm

Hi RobBeen flying with your new mesh for about six hours now and it's really great! I especially appreciate it as I live on the east coast. (Been drawn to flying west coast Canada by Holger's excellent work). I have found some glitches around KJFK and NYC, such as hills that partially bury buildings and a couple "water mountains", one south of KJFK, another just south of G.W. bridge. Does this sound like a problem with something I already have installed? Don't recall adding anything around there but will take a look. No probs north of G.W. bridge and I've flown way up the Hudson River. Really beautiful! Many thanks for a wonderful job.Davidedit: Not to sound stupid but what does PGP (PUBLIC) KEY AVAIL mean? THX

Dave :Thank you !The ' bumps ' of water in NYC are beyond my control.I saw em as well......but opted to leave em in.Firstly, how Microsoft SAW the area, and how LAND SAT (7) & The Space Shuttle did are two things !One could use a flatten program to flatten the two bumps....But as a freeware designer, it takes alot of work to make the mesh , and to flatten every little bump, in this case only two were noted in the entire Eastern Series would take even more time. There is nothing preventing any person, from using a freeware program to flatten the two bumps of water in NYC.I had spent about 29 hrs on NYC alone , I had put in enuff time.I understand your comments are made in very good faith , and are taken that way.I hope you take this reply the same. But one could spend many ,many hrs not only making this stuff, but testing....flying it..makiing screen shots...re sizing pics so that web sites will pist a pic beside your work , writing a read me , also writing a file_Id.Diz.......all takes time.Plus research on the area you wish to mesh.......To be honest, there is a stand alone NYC MESH , that only MESH NYC and not the East USA, that too has the identical humps of water. If I was fully payware, there would not be a single glitch....Thank you for your kind words, and yes Holger is one of my fav mesh designers, I fly his mesh alot...and its always excellent !!Some area's turn out spot on.....while other areas , show some odd hump...tho looking at the EAST mesh, which covers 9 states..plus 2 southern Provinces, Id say not bad...two humps outta all that area to fly in : - )And the price , well ya cant beat it ! : -)I do have a refund policy, Ill give you 3 times the amount you paid for my mesh.......LOL ( its a joke...PLS LAFF )Kidding aside, thank you very much for your kind words.Youre gonna love my new MESH SERIES ( avail VERYYYYY SOON )Keep an eye out in the new files!Till then thx again, and keep me informed if you do ever find any other odd looking objects..( doubt it tho ) .Good Air !I remainRespectfullyRobert.L.Gainer B.,LawPS: A PGP key means " (P)retty (G)ood (P)rivacy "Which is a digital KEY to sign email , so that any email from me , cannot be forged in any way.It can also ENCRYPT , using some very high end Encryption : 4096 bit keys.....VERY hard to crack..if not impossible...The US Gov cannot crack a single Key, many who use PGP , will have several KEYS.More info : http://www.pgp.com

RobThanks for the quick reply! I was afraid I might have added something in one of the FS9 default directories. I'll try flattening them, but a few misplaced bumps in such a large area is certainly no big deal. And no I won't return it for a refund, having to much fun with it! Looking forward very much to your next release and thanks again for this one.DavidNow I go to pgp.com

Dave:Great to hear your having fun with the Eastern Mesh !Makes the time spent worthwile.Your very welcome , for this release...it was truly a pleasure to make, and fly.Im currently testing a really nice **new** series !I think folks are really going to like the new area..... : -)As for PGP its a VERY complex program , not so much to use, but to understand the mathematics of it all...after all its ENCRYPTION!However if you do get stuck with PGP, drop me an email...and I will do my best to assist you in what ever way I can.Ive used PGP for many yrs now , it really can SAVE yer ' RUDDER ' if some clown sends an email in your name, with PGP you sign the email..and if the KEY doesnt fit , its flagged a FORGED EMAIL !!!So no one can impersonate you in anyway, it saved my ' rudder ' once.EMAIL: [email protected] L Gainer B.,Law

Rob,After flying with your absolutley stunning Alaska mesh series, I didn't hesitate to download your US East Coast mesh. As with the Alaska mesh, the US East Coast mesh is equally as breathtaking. Thank you for all your hard work.Bill

Bill :Thank so very mush for the kind words. It is emails and posts such as yours that make any Freeware designer wish to continue to give to the FS community.Ive nothing but postive responses to the Eastern Mesh.I also make a point to reply to each and every email sent to me in a timely fashion , be it words like yours or a simple ask of help .May I take this time to say I have finished * 3 FANTASTIC STATES * Washington State - Oregon - Montana These 3 are simply breath taking in real life, and stunning in FS 2004.Look for the release within an hr of this post.Again Bill, Thank YOU!Robert Gainer B.,Law

Did you say Alaska??? Ya better hit the decks quick cause I'm headed for the scenery library on full afterburners!David

DAVE :LOL, afrerburners huh.....ok :- )make sure you ONLY download the UPDATE !!Thats the only file needed. While its not 100% of Ak , its meshed from Prince Rupert , BC , Canada to Juneau Ak .And approx 50 nm in each direction.WOrks very well, with Mr Holger Sandmans BC MESH ( a reccomended MESH to get ) and also Mr Frank Betts GREAT AK Scenery. These guys do some fantastic work !!Thx again Dave Robert Gainer B.,Law

Scott:That is beyond my control.Ive said it before, how Micro$oft saw the world , and how the LAND SAT ( 7 ) and Space Shuttle did ( data used for mesh ) , is clearly two diff matters. There is 3 humps if you will , out of 9 states, and 45 miles of 2 Canadian Provinces, Id say not bad odds! But its not odds, you can use a flatten program to extend the ground to the GW .But as you now know, the data used for MESH is taken by a SAT , and the shuttle. That data we turn lay over an area, like ' Mesh Wire ' one woul use to say mold or make a Mountain for a school project ( chicken wire as well)Lil hump here n there........thats the data , however the data is more accurate than Microsoft. The mesh data is spot on, its how Mr Gates saw the world .....One could spend months flatten every inch...Like I said within the NYC ( which is rather redundant now ) mesh and the Eastern USA Mesh , both NYC's wil have the same errors.Tell ya what < insert laughter sign here > ' Ill triple your money back ': -)Laff...it was a joke.No biggie, one nice AVSIM user is going to flatten that for all of us...So live with the 2 humps fer now .Robert Gainer B.,Law

"That is beyond my control.... the data used for MESH is taken by a SAT , and the shuttle."Well.... Mesh created from NED data shows no such anomalies. This image was taken with mesh from 30m source data; mesh from 10m source data has no "humps" either.http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/64024.jpgThis image includes a portion of the area rendered by LWMviewer. The blue areas are water with elevations determined by LWM data. The elevation of water in the area near the bridge is determined by the mesh. (The red cross indicates the position of the aircraft.) So the humps are due to flaws in the source data. While such flaws are evident when appearing in areas we expect to be flat, it is reasonable to expect that such anomalies exist throughout the mesh, but are less obvious elsewhere. http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/64025.jpgThat said, it is free, and the dramatic improvement over the default mesh is welcome.Stevewww.fs-traveler.com
