January 10, 201214 yr Dear friends,As I mentioned in a previous topic I had to enable DX10 Preview in FSX because the offboard video card ATI/AMD Radeon HD6470M is not able to work properly with the old renderization model used by Microsoft causing bad cockpit and CDU images using DX9. This is different when using the offboard video card Nvidia GEForce that perform better. Other important gain is regarding the increase of frames per second when you use DX10 instead of DX9.The colateral effect is that most of FSX airports start to flicker (mainly the runways and taxi yellow lines). There are a lot of topics showing how to solve this issue. Basically you need an airport editor like FSX Planner and add a small concrete taxiway for asphalt airport runways or add a small asphalt appron for concrete airport runways. For those that have licensed TropicalSim Brazil sceneries I made the proper adjustments for the main airports SBSP, SBRJ, SBGR and SBGL. The link to download the files are :SBGL - www.megaupload.com/?d=9S2FFOVESBGR - www.megaupload.com/?d=S264XXXOSBRJ - www.megaupload.com/?d=8MOQ9VVISBSP - www.megaupload.com/?d=31MC35KMJust replace the .bgl files in each airport folder under MS FSX TropicalSim folder and the flicker issue and other sporadic issues (not mentioned here) will disappear.Regards,Adenilson
January 10, 201214 yr I use DX10 preview for the higher frames it gives me wit no loss of details.I edited some afcads to fix the problem and it could be done easily. The flickering is present when the textures are overlaid. For example a taxiway under the runway will flicker. Regards Andrea Daviero
January 10, 201214 yr The reason for the improvement in frame rates is because your not getting any anti-aliasing in DX-10. I would never fly with the jaggies no matter how much the FPS improved. Paul Deemer
January 10, 201214 yr Are you sure?My simulator looks nice at the same way as on DX9 mode but with more FPS. Regards Andrea Daviero
January 10, 201214 yr Considering that at the same details with my 3 years old PC in DX9 I lose about 10 FPS, on 20 I can reach in complex airports with dx10, for us dx10 is far far better than spending in a new hardware that will be obsolete when flight will be released. Regards Andrea Daviero
January 10, 201214 yr I'm in the same boat as you using old hardware, but most of the 100 Airport sceneries I have do not even support DX10. If you use DX9 you know all your scenery is supported. I am only using FSX with SP1, SP2 installed and no acceleration as this seems to mess up many of the older FSX sceneries especially at night. If it works to your expectations good for you.MS Flight thats a joke. It just gave new life to FSX and I think it is going to be around for awhile now. As for the hardware upgrades thats just part of the hobby, there is really no way of getting around it especially if you want the ultimate FSX experience. January 10, 201214 yr Author UAL115,The flickering issue with DX10 with sceneries can be solved with the trick of concrete taxiway inserted into sceneries with asphalt runways.Understand I am being forced to use DX10 because AMD/ATI HD6470M offboard video card in my DELL notebook are not showing good images inside the cockpit and CDU (even leaving Global Texture as Max). AMD/ATI manufacturer already mentioned in their website that they will do nothing to adapt their video cards to MS FSX.I also have a LG notebook with a NVDIA GeForce offboard video card and in this case I have no issues with DX9. The reason is simple because AMD/ATI video cards were not implemented to support the old renderizations mechanisms Microsoft used to produce the MS FSX.Davierosoft,Are you using a AMD/ATI video card ? Probably not. If you are using a NVIDIA video card I agree with you that you´ll have success with DX9.The reason for this post is to give some helpful guidance for those with AMD/ATI video card.Regards,Adenilson Edited January 10, 201214 yr by ads2006
January 10, 201214 yr I have a gtx285, and my dx10 performances are greater in dx10 mode.UAL115, yes, the dx10 compatibility problem is what I hate of this mode. but in the last years most solved this.I also like the shadows inside some cockpits, something that in dx9 mode is not possible. Regards Andrea Daviero
January 10, 201214 yr I am guessing you guys are not using FS Dreamteam Sceneries either. I have DFW, LAX, PHNL, PHLI, PHTO, PHOG, and PHKO. I'm sorry, but there is no way to make Geneva work with DX10. If there was, we would already did it.We believe that DX10 mode is not really usable, since there are issues even with default airports and no, it's not just LGSS, but also KLAS and KFLL, and our sceneries are not the only ones that do not work at night with DX10. I have DFW, LAX, PHNL, PHLI, PHTO, PHOG, and PHKO.Hello, you are right, infact FS Dreamteam LSZH ZurichX in DX10 and in the night the ground textures are completely gray. I don't know if it could be fix.Anyway, some other Fs Dreamteam sceneries are already DX10 compatible.A problem with DX10 usage is not only textures flickering, but a very boring graphics in the night or at dusk/dawn in some sceneries as well.Last sunday I tried to fix but no lucky.Furthermore, I was not able to run AA filters by Inspector, but only the FSX one. January 11, 201214 yr Author Just an update. Links for SBGR, SBGL, SBSP and SBRJ for DX10 usage under FSX are not valid anymore. Please use this one - www.megaupload.com/?d=134YAQZU. Remember this is just a .bgl update then you need the licensed TropicalSim sceneries for Brazil.Adenilson
