Question about MS: Can they fix...

Featured Replies

Can MS fix the blurry texture loading issue and red square issue with the technology today instead of users trying to edit their fs9.cfg file and tweak their $400 card?Too bad we can't tell FS what to load first, second, third, etc...Tim

Everything worked fine with my GF3 200 card and it didn't cost $400.

Hmmmm, no problems with my dodgy old GeForce 2 Ultra (64mb) -------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember what

I eliminated the red square by setting TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400. My vid card has 256MB which I've read helps a lot with this issue. I think it's a compromise MS was forced to make due to the range of systems people have.David

ok.Do this-1. Fly a 737 over Chicago for 2 minutes.2. Take screenshots around3. Take a screenshot in spot view.4. Tim - There is nothing to "fix". Some of us have taken screenshots and posted them many times. Search a little and you'll find some. It's not like the "blurries" are a new topic (with either FS2004 or FS2002). This "problem" is very system-specific and not something suffered by everyone. If you have the blurries, you have the blurries. And if you don't, you don't. Doug

sundevil; you can get it running good. You just gotta work at it. The first thing to do is to do a search in these forums and the flightsim forums. There's tons of good information here and there. I agree the problems folks have can be very system specific. Others are common that have been discussed in the forums. There's many very good tips from the users right here in these forums. Some may work for you; some may not. You just gotta do the research yourself. I got my sim running really sweet thanks to all the terrific tips and discoveries posted by other simmers in these forums. And, tommorrow; I expect to find another tip that'll make it even better than today.

BigShot,Can you post your fs9.cfg settings here.TP

Hi Tim, Welcome back, Can you post your shots again like you did before witih the square pop up and extreme blur texture, they will see your problems. There was many reply about these identical post.Use trileanar in fs2004 displayGround texture quality: There is two thing you MUST do, fs9.cfg radius setting alone is not enought, with your display driver setting use 4x anasotropy or higher (8x decrease FPS compare to 4x), it will improve the ground textureIn the fs9.cfg (Terrain)TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS: 9.500000 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS: 4.500000 Use both setting, video cards display setting use 4x or 8X anasotropy and these fs9.cfg radius change. -I have noticed Antialasing higher then 4x strangly add a layer or blurry on the ground texture. What is the TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT parameter in the [DISPLAY] section? This setting controls the rate at which textures get transferred to the video hardware. Higher numbers will result in the textures getting to the hardware faster and avoiding "popping" textures when switching view but may increase stutters and require more physical memory on the video card (and some more, not recommended for video card with less than 128Mb). Increasing this setting with a 64Mb video card will cause stutters as the greater memory requirement will use the main system memory via the AGP port - or the slower PCI port - or even worse if the system memory is insufficient it will use the virtual memory on the hard drive with access to the swap file and lotsa stutters. -Also reducing some details will help your CPU to render quicker the ground and depend on which type of system you have. -Clouds draw distant to 30 mile -Clouds precentage to 100% -Sight distant to 60 mile -Mesh lower then 85 % -Autogen, scenery and Ai traffic, from your taste level (autogen not to max for better FPS) -Mip map slider in fs2004 always leave it at 4 -Graphics texture quality leave it at MAX -Enable Extended Texture -Never use Antialasing in fs2004 always get this disabled, only enable this from your driver display setting. *All these will help the rendering with your system *I recommend to never use the slew mode in fs2004, since the fs2004 slew mode stop the rendering for the ground most of the time. For Windows XP users the fs9.cfg file is now located in Drive_Letter:/Documents and Settings/User_Name/Application Data/Microsoft/FS9. This is a hidden folder by default so you need to modify the folder options via the control panel: go to the view tab and check the "Show hidden files and folders" option For Windows 9x users the fs9.cfg file is located in Drive_Letter:/WindowsApplicationData/Microsoft/FS9 ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs

The blurry textures are "by design". The only way to "fix" it would be to rewrite the FS scenery/graphics engine. The FS graphics engine is simply not efficent enough. In FS2004, I have almost never seen a blurry texture over generic scenery. A great improvement over FS2002, which would display blurry textures as soon as framerate dropped below ~15 FPS.With photographic sceneries such as Megascenery and UK VFR Photographic Scenery however, blurry textures are still a big problem. Works fine at GA speeds (100-200 kts.) but try a 737 or something and the textures turn into a blurry, brown and green mess.

Hi,In addition to the suggestions by Chris Willis above, (most of which I use), I have also found that different video card drivers react differently. You should try different drivers as well (whether you have an ATI card or Nvidia or...what other card is there?)Right now I don't have any blurries and I only have the texture loading problem if I am flying with an aircraft that hogs FPS. Another "fix" for the texture loading problem is to install more RAM.

"Right now I don't have any blurries"At least not over generic scenery ;)

This is just a simple suggestion for those who haven't done it yet. If you plan on experimenting with FS9.cfg settings, put a shortcut to it on your desktop, makes things a bit easier.David
