January 28, 201214 yr With FS2crew, I just had a short flight from EHAM to EIDW,(martinair CF). Everything was okay. I set to FMS speed at about 2000ft, it was 157. Green box checked, dual land on PFD. At 500, I turned off AP from Yoke. Flare at 30ft, cut throttle and reverse, I had set autobrake to min, and when touchdown, I also apply manual brake. But it seemed was too heavy, too fast and I ended up breaching a fence in the edge of runway 16. I know I mustve been missing something.. If the real md 11 issue is simulated by pmdg, wow... This is the first for me, I had no problems when not using autobrake instead. Please enlighten me. Thank youG'd day
January 28, 201214 yr If you brake manually, you cancel the autobrakes. If you manually use the brakes, you are using the brakes to the maximum amount possible. Autobrakes are preset at certain deceleration rates. The bigger amount of autobrake (MIN, MED, MAX), the greater the deceleration force. Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"
January 28, 201214 yr Commercial Member It's not an issue, you just didnt plan properly. Using max manual brakes should have stopped you sooner then Max autobrakes. PMDG dont simulate runway conditions or brake temp affecting stopping distance. It is now common place on new high end addons and now a part of the NGX.If you want realistic MD11 braking I would suggest this - http://secure.simmar...-pro-b737.phtml (The link is for the 737 but they have a generic one)The MD11 has such a high Vapp on approach I think the above addon is a must, it doesnt just affect autobrakes your manual brake distance will be affected by rain snow/slush and runway slope. I would also suggest using TOPCAT to calculate you landing performance. Rob Prest
January 28, 201214 yr Well done if you can get down on RWY 16 with such a big aircraft! I have trouble getting a 737 down on the deck on that runway! January 29, 201214 yr Thank you Kenny.. I didn't know that applying manual brake is actually using the most of its function.Flex1978: thank you for your inputs, its been very useful. Yes I have heard about TOPCAT. I just read a review about it right after you recommended it. Guess I outta read the FCOM again. By the way, as I understand it, your location is Heathrow to Changi. Interesting, is it your routine route? :)Jude: You got me there. The ATC instructed me to use the active runway, I was coming from the east.. I didn't check the rwy length as I didn't have a 2nd plane. It is short indeed, in fact, I just had a EHAM-VTBS flight, nearly 10 hour of airborne, landed on rwy 1R, 13123 feet, huge difference it has. This is supposed to be a basic knowledge. Doh... Thanx mate*im sorry I'm not able to use "quote" features as I'm on my mobile Edited January 29, 201214 yr by Reason
January 29, 201214 yr Commercial Member Hey Coltrane,I used to live and work between those countries, now I am just based between London and BahrainRegards Rob Prest
January 30, 201214 yr I live a few km from EIDW, so I use it quite a bit on FSX :)RWY 28 is the usual Runway approach most days since we have a south-west wind most of the time (why Ireland is so green). On the rare ocasions where the wind changes,it's usually RW10 (same runway), so you got an even rarer event landing on 16/34.(next time use an arrester hook)! Thank youG'd day Hi, on the MD-11(or any aircraft with autobrake) if you press the brake pedals after landing , you disarm the autobrakes. Normally at 80knots you have to press brake pedals to disarm it, check the "ABS" warning light, call "manual braking" and continue braking by pressing brake pedals smoothly. Notice the MD11 has a high Vapp due to small wings compared to it's great weight. Also take in account the runway length ( 7000ft for MD11) and the normal autobrake set is Medium. Use the TOPCAT, it's so accurate with the PMDG MD11 :(
