FSX really doesn't run well on AMD CPU's. I'd recommend that you tell him to go for an Ivy Bridge CPU. That will really make FSX run nicely.

For the basics, though, it will fair. I wouldn't purchase it, but if it's all I've got, I could make it work. February 2, 201214 yr Depending on the graphics card, I agree.Perhaps, but really on the very edge of insufficient under any conditions. I had an Athlon too, and as a matter of fact still have it packed away as a backup to my backup to my backup system. I don't think it is worthwhile making the attempt, just from actual personal experience. It even had trouble with FS8 and FS9 with anything but the most basic settings.Kind regards,

February 2, 201214 yr Thanks for your help Gents,I have given the guy a link to this thread to see your opinions.Chris,Sorry not to be as positive as some of the other guys but I would hate to have your friend get his hopes higher than the very low peformance he would be able to attain, at least IMHO.Kind regards,
February 2, 201214 yr Author Not at all StephenI think deep down he knows he wont get away with using that cpu he actually said he had installed FSX but without any addons.I mentioned that an upgrade would be the way to go (money permiting) but im not sureif thats an option at the moment.Like you said, there would be no point leering him into false expectaions and becoming as frustrated as i was when in the same situation! He asked me on the forums at our VA and i thought i'd point him to you guys...after all...here is where i learnt what i know now!Regards, Chris Howard
