Fighting the "blurries" in Wyoming and Utah - FS9

Featured Replies

Morn'n Folks,Re: Fantastic little sceneries by Alan Heiner (KODG KRIW KVEL KPOY KSGU KCNY)Been focusing on the GA side of the house lately... Even after all these years with FS9 - there are so many new areas to explore... I've been out in Colorodo, Utah, and Wyoming... I recently downloaded all the airports Alan Heiner had created a while back... They are really very good but I have a problem with these sceneries always causing ALL the textures in FS9 to go blurry... As best I can tell most of the objects used in these sceneries are from the EZ and Runway12 libraries... Normally the blurries are caused by 32 bit textures - so I tried converting all my installed libraries and these scenery texture folders to DXT3.... No luck - every time I swing the camara back to these airports - everything goes blurry... I've tried this on two machines capable of running all the advanced FlyTampa and FS Dreamteam stuff without a problem...Does anyone have experience with these sceneries - or any ideas on what else to try... I'd really like to get these airports operating normally...Regards,Scott

There were some library objects released for FS9 that had texture-inducing problems. The developer was made aware and released revised packages. You can figure out what's been used to make the scenery and then start checking for any updates.

Hi Meshman,Thanks for the response - ouch - sounds painful... I would have to figure out ho to decompile a BGL to identify what objects the author used - right ??? Do you think it was because they used 32 bit BMP's as textures or would there be more to it than that ???I'll start poking around...Regards,Scott

You could always try emailing the party that made the scenery and ask what the different packages were to put the scenery together?Ideally (as I would have done <g>), some one using 3pd libraries should keep a list and let the end-user know what's needed. If making a download package with all the libraries and textures used you could well end up with duplicates and outdated files.

Hi Meshman,Thanks for the assist - I've got it - I think - I've been using the latest EZ and Runway12 compilations by David Grindele... There has to be a bad texture in there somewhere... I discarded my first bunch of library files since I don't know how many mods I've tried since I began troubleshooting... I unzipped a fresh copy and made sure my issue still occurred... It did - so with the advice here - I felt it had to be a bad texture somewhere... It's certainly the most probable due to the vast number of individual authors... So I ran all the BMP's through ConVimX again... Extended Bitmap - DXT3 - with MipMaps... I ran this on the texture directories for both the Runway12 and EZ libraries... Sure enough - it fixed the issue... I must have missed a file or something the first time through...Again - really appreciate all the help...Regards,Scott

Maybe get an SSD and adjust your FFTF in the FSX.cfg.

Uh, no. Please don't give out advice unless you know what the problem is,First, he was referring to FS9 work. So why do you advise to adjust his FSX.cfg file?Second, FS9 scenery will blur if there is an improperly formatted texture file. He is not referring to blurries in general, so your advice to get a SSD will accomplish what? Render the blurry FS9 improperly formatted texture file quicker? There is a difference between knowing and thinking. One can solve the problem, the other can't.

Meshman is right, but I might suggest in your sliders- global textures? Run that slider all the way to the right. Remember where is was in case you want to run it back. Next Try to make sure your textures are not on ly dxt1,3, or 5 but also mip mapped. That slider all the way to the right tells FS( or FSX to use the mipmaps. If the slider is not all the way to the right FS9 or FSX will try to render the most detailed example of the texture which tends to drag down frame rates and sometimes the blurries. But usually the blurries can be caused by a texture not in DXT form. Sometimes it's because the texture does not include mipmapping. And sometimes it is caused by not holding your tongue right when you turned off that last taxiway... Right?! hehehehe Bob
