Deletion of taxiway signs

Featured Replies

I have been doing some work converting FSX.bgl to FS9.bgl as follows. I first use Airport Design Editor (ADE) to open a stock airport then compile this .bgl. As next I use fsx2fs9 (with taxisigns unchecked in strip box) to convert to FS9. So far all is good. Using Airport Facilitator X (AFX) and FS9 I then compare the parkings to make sure non of them collide or intrude on the FS9 buildings etc. If so I either move the parkings slightly or when not feasable delete them. I have noticed that the taxiway signs from FSX are o/k but the taxisigns from FS9 are still existant in the 'new' bgl, although they do not show in AFX. Is there some way that I can delete these FS9 taxiway signs. I belong to a group of flight simmis using both FSX and FS9 and act as Ground Controller using Euroscope hence the need to bring both Flusis in line with one another. BTW I use bgl2sct to convert the 'new' FS9 bgl to data that is usable in Euroscope. Help would be most welcome.

Hi.I'll just start the ball rolling here...I'm no great genius at scenery creation but I have noticed that airports made from scratch don't seem to suppress all the stock furniture, while modifying a stock airport (and deleting or excluding taxi signs) does. I've no idea why that should be.Secondly, if you are working in an area where there are only a small number of airports in that stock AP******.BGL, you could make replacements for them all, then disable the stock bgl.Third, I've seen a lot of freeware airports that have separate exclude bgls in their ../scenery/ folder, which are obviously there to suppress the stock furniture. Sadly, I wouldn't have a clue about how to create one...Regards,D

You need to creat an xml file similar to below and then complie into a BGL file:-vololiberista

<?xml version="1.0"?><FSData   version = "9.0"   xmlns:xsi='http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance'   xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="bglcomp.xsd" >   <ExclusionRectangle	    latitudeMinimum = "N51 26.00"	    latitudeMaximum = "N51 30.00"	    longitudeMinimum = "W0 31.00"	    longitudeMaximum = "w0 22.00"	   excludeTaxiwaySignObjects = "TRUE"/></FSData>

Ah...Things are becoming clearer. What would you use as a compiler?(And, at risk of hijacking the thread, is there an app that can turn such an exclude back into xml? I ask because I've seen some freeware packages that have excludes that are far too big, and suppress things I'd like to see. Though I suppose I could just disable the original exclude and make my own.)Cheers,D

I thought AFX could create exclude rectangles? If so, just make a big rectangle around your entire airport and choose Taxi Signs as the objects to be excluded. Or use BGLComp (in the BGLComp SDK) to compile the XML text above, after changing the lat and long values to that of your airport. Or use a program like ExcBuilder2 to do the same thing.Hope this helps,

AFX does indeed exclude taxi signs but that method isn't foolproof unless you create an enormous rectangle.If you open the default version of the airport in AFX, and then click on the "Create Taxiway Signs" button, it will automatically create a small exclude rectangle round each existing sign. (I think this is not necessary in its entirety but it is a belt-and-braces system to ensure that the exclude works), You can then select all the rectangles and copy-paste across to your modified airport.John

Hi.I don't know about AFX but the excludes created in ADE don't always work if the new airport has been built from scratch. I understand from the first post that the OP is suffering a similar problem somewhere along the steps in his conversion.Does the copy & paste definitely work in AFX? I may have to obtain a copy as I haven't been able to achieve it in ADE.Regards,D

Yes. It sensibly warns you to be careful what you copy to ensure you don't end up with duplicated runways etc. So you need to make the selection for copying with care but it has never failed me. I use that process frequently for dealing with downloaded AFD files that people have made using AFCAD which has no provision for managing taxi signs. I prefer no signs at all than coming across one in the middle of a taxiway so I just do a quick copy of the excludes across and I'm happy but of course AFX will let you add new ones if you want.John

Many thanks for all your info. The last solution from John works fine but I went to the Mode menu, clicked on Create Exclusion Rectangles and for some reason it put exclusions around all taxisigns, no idea why. When I clicked on Create Taxiway Signs as John said I found that it only opened a new create taxisign symbol. Maybe this is something with my system but anyway as I said it works just fine. Thanks again one and all.

You are absolutely right - sorry for the wrong info. What you have done is what I meant to say. I'm glad somebody can read my mind even though I can't!John
