Undocked Window Issue

If the undocked window is not appearing in Windowed mode then it is likely behing the FS window. Use the Task Bar to select it to the front.
Pete, the RC4 window is not visible from the task bar but the program icon, for lack of the proper name, is. Clicking on it does not return the RC4 window into FSX. Looking behind a window for another window seems like a rather obvious troubleshooting step.
In that case that position MUST have been saved in a FLT file! There's no where else that it could be remembered!
As I clearly stated before, no. The flight was not saved. I did, since it was suggested, attempt saving the flight without the RC4 window up, with the RC4 window up and undocked to the TV, with the RC4 window up and undocked to the monitor, and with the RC4 window up and docked to the TV. When I shut it all down, start RC4 and FSX back up, and undock the RC4 window it moves back to a desktop that does not exist. This problem is more like the Adobe Acrobat Reader problem in Windows7 where the reader can become stuck on the wrong screen when using dual screens in extended desktop mode.

Program icon? I don't think there's any icon for an FS window, even if it's undocked. You mean the Radar Contact program? Why would you want its menu -- that's an entirely different thing.

I KNOW you stated that, but if the window is trying to appear on a Monitor you used to have, then something, somewhere, is remembering an old position for it, and the only place I know of which stores such memories is the Flight file. Please try to read what I write, otherwise I'm wasting my time.

I don't know the latter problem, but I'm also afraid I also do not know what could be happening on your system, unless it is all down to the known bugs in FSX undocked window positioning. All I can suggest is taking up one of these suggestions:1. Use the window docked instead2. Use the Lua ext library facility to position the window for you3. Use "showtext" instead. It saves and restores its own position, and the fonts and colours are configurable, so it makes a more flexible alternative to an undocked FS window. This is what I use -- but admittedly on another PC via WideFS. Suppress the FS window altogether if you use this.4. Find that program I mentioned which positions FS windows for you. Sorry I still don't recall the name.RegardsPete

Pete, I am reading what you are saying very carefully. I am insulted that you would state otherwise. There is no need to start yelling at me with caps lock on. I am a rational adult here to calmly fix a problem. What you wrote simply is not working, I already attempted what you suggested. When you suggested I do it again I informed you that I had already tried but I still proceeded to try again. It is not working.Just for the sake of making sure we are all on the same sheet of music this is a screen shot of the docked RC4 window I am referring to.RC4Window.jpgThe above RC4 popup/window does not appear in the Windows7 task bar when undocked on my system.

I suspect you are most correct with suggestion number one. That is what I have been using since the problem surfaced and will probably go that route. As I read your third suggestion though my interest is most peaked. I too use another computer, a laptop, for chatting with my fellow pilots as well as pulling up charts and what-not. I have a registered version of FSUIPC4 and WideFS. I was not aware I could get the text to display on another computer via WideFS. I will look to the manuals today and see how set this up. As I think about it more that would indeed be an excellent answer. Thank you for suggesting it, Pete.Edit: For some reason I cannot get the image to display? This time I deleted all ".flt" files. From there I created a new default and saved it. I started RC and saved over that new one with the RC4 panel docked. I then undocked it, retrieved it because it moved again, moved it back over, and saved again. I shut it all down and started it back up. I undocked the RC4 panel and it moved back. I noticed that there was a line in the FSUIPC4.ini (see below please) so I deleted the saved flight again, deleted the line in FSUIPC4.ini (see below please), started it all back up, and when I undocked the RC4 panel it moved again. As I type this message there is no saved .flt file but the line in FSUIPC4.ini has returned with the values listed below. I have tried to change these values, start FSX and RC; however, the RC4 panel still moves. I have not check to see if the "Undocked=1895, 1, 433, 196" value stays the same or keeps changing. Most perplexing.

[Window.Radar Contact]Docked=346, 3184, 3537, 2436Undocked=1895, 1, 433, 196

After reading enough of the MS Windows7 forums to make my eyes blurry and have to brew up another cup of coffee I discovered that this is a problem which started in Windows Vista. It seems the root of the issue is that in Windows7 you do not have the ability to change the identity of screens attached to your computer. If I could tell my computer to treat the monitor as screen 1 and the TV as screen 2 that would fix the problem it would seem. Since there is no method of doing this in Windows7 I will give a program called Ultraman a try.Pete there is a suggestion #5 at this point.#5 Tell Windows7 the TV is to the right of the monitor and the RC4 panel will remain visible docked or undocked. However, your suggestion #3 is greatly appealing, I simply need to locate the instructions for setting it up. Off to peruse the manuals for "ShowText".

http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66136-useful-additional-programs/is where showtext, makerwys, and other useful applications are located.I operate leaving the FSUIPC/RC window docked in the position that least interferes with view for that specific aircraft. I then use the toggle that display key as I mentioned previously. I notice you are using red text. You can use white text if you wish by adding the line also to the general section of FSUIPC.ini:AdvDisplayHotKey=88,10WhiteMessages=YesThe first is the ctrl-x toggle the docked (or undocked) window useful for taxiing and landing patterns when turning and checking for conflicting AI. It will stay hidden until the next RC command at which point it will reappear. Handy also for screenshots. The second changes the default red text to white.Showtext uses the advdisp.dll window I believe. This is a non-transparent window. I thought I'd mention that. You mentioned you reinstalled RC. If you did make sure the current FSUIPC and makerwys.exe current versions were not replaced with older versions during the RC install.

Sorry, I completely forgot I'd added some stuff into FSUIPC4 to try to deal with the window placement problems in FSX. I'm getting so old my memory's failing me more and more. :-(Rather than delete it (because evidently it is being given those numbers again next time) try editing the line to place and size the Window where you really want it? If you know the screen arrangements and their resolution you should be able to work out the coordinates and sizes. The units are pixels, and the top left corner of the main Windows screen is 0,0.
Showtext uses the advdisp.dll window I believe. This is a non-transparent window. I thought I'd mention that.
No, AdvDisplay.dll was merely an FS module which did what ShowText.exe also does -- AdvDisplay ran inside FS (FS9 and earlier only) whilst ShowText.exe was made as an external program equivalent. Neither one uses the other. ShowText has many more options than either the FS Windows now used instead of AdvDisplay and AdvDisplay itself -- and has the advantage that it runs over WideFS if required, something I've used for many years in order to place the RC menu on a little extra screen in my cockpit.Yes, it's windows aren't transparent, but neither are undocked FS Windows.RegardsPete

I have ShowText working and it was very easy to setup. I wish I had known about it before now. I've owned RC for over two years and FSUIPC for a year and had I known then about this great program. Well, as my wife is fond of saying nothing happens before its time. So, Pete, I thank you for the ShowText suggestion. This is an addition which has greatly improved my flight sim. I will make sure the people back in my VA know about this little gem.
