February 14, 201214 yr Dear MS Flight team, I hope you get to read this.I am sure most Flight Simulator fans are looking forward to the release of MS Flight, and that over time the staunchest of critics will also enjoy the new experience envisioned by your team. Recent interviews with your development team spokesperson indicated that Flight may not allow for intercontinental flight, or for people to fly in their local area of residence/operation.The current alternative Microsoft product, aka FSX, still offers a great simulation experience for beginner, intermediate and advanced "flight simmers". Whereas the focus of Flight has been to provide great performance on current average PC hardware, FSX has unfortunately been left in a state where even higher-end machines struggle to produce a fluid and trouble free experience. From the screenshots and available videos one can clearly see the FSX roots in the rendering engine, and I'm sure many people have wondered how FSX would run using the latest rendering technology. My plea to Microsoft and the Flight Team is to consider developing a Service Pack 3 for FSX that will bring it up to date with the technology used for Flight. Flight would be the gateway for the enjoyment of flight for the franchise, and FSX SP3 (or a slightly more flashy name, payware or free, doesn't matter) can still be the environment where more serious and sandbox environment simming can take place. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
February 14, 201214 yr Eventhough I would love to see this happening, I highly doubt it will be feasible. First because I don't think the codebase of FSX can be replaced by the one from Flight, but secondly because MS would never take any action which would improve a product which in their view is competing with Flight. Regards, Frank van der Werff
February 14, 201214 yr Author Although the codebase is different, I am speculating that it will still read the same scenery, aircraft etc. The challenge would be to interface the Flight rendering engine into what is currently FSX. It might not be straightforward, but surely possible. Microsoft can potentially rebrand FSX, market it as a new product and sell it. Think of the old "Standard" and "Deluxe" versions:Standard- MS Flight - Introduction into the world of flying, and primary revenue generatorDeluxe- MS FSX Plus! - Sandbox experience for the serious simmer, keeping customers happy within the franchise (in other words from migrating and taking their money to other platforms). The success of both would be to the credit of Flight and its development team, and it will pay homage to the community that has supported their products over many years. You are probably right, but it is still a nice dream!
February 14, 201214 yr Commercial Member Yeah SP3 would be amazinb, but still just a dream. In my serious simulation flying I will just stay using FSX and X plane 10...MS should add cars, boats and such to Flight. If I could drive around Hawaii with nicely detailed roads and drive to harbor, then board a boat and drive bit around with it until going to airport and picking up Cessna, that would be epic.
