Nick's tweaks are best. You are looking for the same clues as me I see. I'm also looking for a guide to increase quality as performance is plenty good on modern hardware.

Rafal - let's not forget quality freeware addons! There may not be as many that are cutting edge, but there are definitely some that are equal to most payware... (I know you know that my friend - I'm just saying it because --- errrr ---- because --- Okay, I don't know why, it just seemed like the thing to say! LOL

Lots of good freeware and payware scenery, but they still don't solve problems with fs2004 performance.

Less performance tolerated if higher quality can be obtained. :)
