FS9.cfg tweak guide

Featured Replies

Let's face it guys - we are always going to be faced with the need to "tweak" for both quality and performance because we are always going to be adding new stuff that will push both our hardware and the basic platform (FS) to its limits and beyond.WE ARE ADDICTS - there is no such thing as "enough!" :rolleyes:As for Nick's "tweaks" the answer seems to be a balance of quality and performance. What I found was that it moves almost everything "to the right" without any serious hit on performance.

I want more quality as FS2004 flies with all sliders maxxed out, so a tweak guide explaining the cfg settings eould be nice. How to increase load radius of scenery, density of autogen etc.

As per performance, you can use all the tweeks you want if you dont do basic things, its no good. I use a good defragger and defragg before each session.; Spend the money, buy a GOOD defragger ( I use UltimateDefrag ) and consolidate files. Turn off EVERYTHING not needed; anti virus, spyware, ect. Ive tried Game Booster and was not happy with it. Another thing I do, which some will argue with, is to erase all files in the PREFETCH folder every few days. Go to TASKMANAGER and look over whats actually running on your computer. You might be surprised at the stuff that is not needed. Also, check your STARTUP folder, see what programs are running on startup that you can shut down. Beleive me, these simple things will give you boost you will notice.

I don't need a defragger - I only use top rated SSDs. I use CCleaner to maintain Windows, and have no anti-virus installed. I don't surf the net with my workstation. I have plenty performance, but want better quality = denser autogen, higher scenery radius to aboid blurry textures in the distance etc. But thanks anyway!

denser autogen
Unfortunately that is impossible. The density of the displayed autogen is hard coded.I am sure nobody has found a solution to it yet. You can change the objects (their textures) but you won't increase their final number.
blurry textures
There are many thread suggesting how to limit the blurries. But you cannot eliminate them totally.I have tried tens of tweaks, some better, some worse. My final conclusion is: with a good system and good tweaks blurries are much reduced but not eliminated.

Ive tried Game Booster and was not happy with it.
When I first got Game Booster a couple of years ago, it really helped .. I was uber surprised - and impressed -- with how it helped FS9. Didn't last long though, two or three releases later and they gummed it all up.

I think it is Game Booster 1.6 that was the best.

Yup, that was the version that worked best . . . I really liked it, and that may be because I was surprised anything like that did any good at all!Anybody still have that release?

I use Version 1.6 which works just fine. I don't know what the latest version is as I have not found any reason to move up to it.David
