February 22, 201214 yr Aft of the IRS Display is a two position red safety capped switch labeled WLAN. I can't find it in any of the documentation and not a single overhead diagram in multiple documents. Anyone have an idea what is does? ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
February 22, 201214 yr Maybe it has to do with the wifi on board. Perhaps the flight crew has direct access to turn the wifi off to stop people from shopping and facebooking at FL 380. Edited February 22, 201214 yr by Kenny Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"
February 22, 201214 yr It's the WiFiMy guess is it stands for Wireless LAN (local area network).I found this article googling that switch. http://www.slashgear.com/boeing-confirms-elevated-wifi-causes-737ng-system-glitches-10139199/Boeing did tests and confirmed that onboard WiFi can cause certain Honeywell DU's to blank out, but only at highly elevated power levels during ground testing. The article was written early last year, so not sure if they started putting WiFi back in new aircraft since it was stopped when the article was written. February 22, 201214 yr Author Okay, that agrees with what my wild guess was! Can anyone offer an explanation of when it would be used and how (I realize it's not modeled on the NGX but I'm curious). ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
February 22, 201214 yr Maybe thinking of different uses WiFi could have in the off position?- stops that one passenger surfing porn while the 8 yo boy behind him goggles- stops interference to certain Honeywell DUs- bypasses a short in the wiring if they are able to track it that far?- used by engineers/techs on the ground for circuit testing/interference checks?ok really...I don't know AJ Pongress
