Two quick terminology questions

Featured Replies

Hello guys, good day to all.I have 2 quick questions:1.- Whats a MAX ANGLE climb? I mean, its names tells you what it is, but when will one use it? I have heard ATCs telling pilots to use their best rate, but never their max angle.2.- On the TAKEOFF REF page (the one where you specify the CG, V speeds, etc.) you have the option of toggling QRH on or off. What is it and what does it do? I'm guessing QRH means something different than quick reference handbook in this case.Regards,Armando Arjona

Max angle is used to climb over obstacles for example.. It gives you the highest climb rate in the lowest traveled distance. Max rate means max climb pr time.. For example, use max climb rate and you will get to 10.000 feet in the shortest time. If you climb on max angle you will get to 10.000 feet in the shortest distance :)

Could be wrong, but I think max angle means you bypass your planned N1 climb rate and go for full thrust to maintain a speed at the maximum pitch before losing airspeed.

The MAX ANGLE sellection will give you a climb speed at which you'll climb in the shortest distance possible. It DOESN't mean you'll be climbing at the maximum rate. You will mostly use the ECON setting throught your whole flight, though.

I'm not 100% sure, but if I were to guess:QRH does mean Quick Reference Handbook. The real NG doesn't give you "suggestions" of Vspeeds according to your weight. You have to calculate it by your self, or, in case of the airlines, use the Vspeeds given in your performance sheet. When you switch QRH off in the NGX, it removes those suggested Vspeeds. The NG doesn't have that QRH selection.I may be wrong, though,

The MAX ANGLE sellection will give you a climb speed at which you'll climb in the shortest amount of time possible. It DOESN't mean you'll be climbing at the maximum rate, it just means that you'll reach your cruise altitude as fast as the plane can. You will mostly use the ECON setting throught your whole flight, though.
I will have to disagree on that, what you describe is MAX Rate. Max angle means you will reach your selected altitude in the shortest distance hence the maximum climb angle.

That's what I wanted to say. Time was not the correct dimension indeed. Sorry.

I really do appreciate all the answers. They were excelent and crystal clear and definitelly solved my inquiries. Much thanks to all. Armando Arjona.
