The difference between "critique" and "criticism"

I made this same post years ago on another forum when criticism got out of hand about 3rd party products. The same applies to Flight in many ways.To put it simply, "critique" is helpful in many ways. It allows a developer to understand there possible flaws and improve things to better serv there customer. On the other hand "criticism" is not helpfull in any way other then to fluff up the posters ego or post count.CRITIQUE: To properly critique something, you must not only point out flaws, but offer possible solutions or ways to deal with such flaws. A developer WANTS to know very specifically WHY you dont like something.EXAMPLE of a CRITIQUE: "The flight modeling seems nice, but without a proper ATC, its hard to simulate landing at a controlled airport." Or "Without AI traffic, the sky feels very empty"CRITICISM: To criticize something is just complaining. If your not spacific in what you dont like about it, and dont offer any good feedback, criticism is just pointless complaining.EXAMPLE of CRITICISM: "This game blows! Its all arcade! I played it for 2 mins before uninstalling it!" or "M$ turned there back on us! This sucks!"I know that Flight wont appeal to EVERYONE. Thats fine. If you dont like it, please be specific and try to be helpful. Just saying "Its bad" and "Its arcade rubish" is not helpful in ANY WAY. The dev's will be reading everything that goes on in these forums for the next few days, and hopefully make a proper choice on the direction to take Flight. If you critique there game in an educated and level headed way, your a lot more likely to be heard over just moaning about how much you hate it. If I remember correctly, there is a saying here something like "Never let being correct outweigh being helpfull" or something to that effect. Please remember that before you post.

You didnt say WHY, so no, your just complaining. If you think Flight is like Bird of Prey or Hawx, then you have no experience at all.

CRITICISM: To criticize something is just complaining. If your not spacific in what you dont like about it, and dont offer any good feedback, criticism is just pointless complaining.
Criticism is the practice of judging the merits and faults of something or someone in an intelligible (or articulate) way.Criticism: a critical comment, article, or essay; critique. Please tell me what the diference is again. Neither of these definitions include the word "complaining".
The tone of that is being set on this forum is simply one of "speak highly of Flight or don't speak at all". I find this troubling.
As you should, if that were an accurate statement. What we are doing is preventing the disfranchised few from spoiling it for the many. How many times do we have to hear; "I have been betrayed!". Microsoft is "abandoning me". Ad nauseam... Let's get a grip folks. There are folks that do not like FLIGHT. WE GET THAT! They do not have any substance to base their gnashing of teeth on, just that there is some visceral need to bleat against the injustices that the ogre MS has brought down upon their heads. State an opinion based on fact, rather than throwing stones with nothing more than vitriolic to add some meat to it, and those posts will stand (happily I might add).... But you know; they ain't none.

Its part of ART and game development. Like I said, to just complain on a forum does no good. To try to offer feedback as to why you dont like a spacific aspect of the game does offer the developer information they can use to improve the game.

I'm just saying that the dictionary definition of criticism doesn't match yours. I'm not sure why you're excited about the difference between "criticism" and "critique" since the dictionary uses on to provide an example of how to use the other. They are the same thing.

Maybe so... But neither hold much water if you do not have fact, actual experience, or knowledge of the workings to cite in your critique, criticism, complaint, I TRIED TO USE A PROFANITY HERE - AREN'T I STUPID!, what ever...

Like I said, the definition is differant on a professional level. There are many aspects about Flight I simply DONT LIKE. Clouds look like cotton balls. Water looks way too shiny. No ATC, no AI traffic, no open SDK, no TIR support. These are all facts and are very valid reason not to like the product. Saying "I hate it because MS turned there backs on us" in not a fact. Its an openion yes, and your allowed to feel that way, but posting such things really does the forum no benifit other then insiting hate and anger. Do you really want that in the forums? I dont. I also dont want a sugar sweet PC forums. Its a tight rope to walk, and I dont invy the mods for what they must be going through right now.

This just DejaVu all over again?
Except with more admin participation.
Is that a good, or bad, thing?
Consider that I would like to support Flight and be able to discuss meaningful topics about it, I think a fair amount of moderation is good at this point.

PapaWhiskey-yes I was made a mod when fsx came out exactly because of the kind of drivel you just posted in your post. There is only one thing that is censored on this site and that is bad behaviour.I look at your post and I can only see bad behaviour.
