ATIS broadcasts are outside NGX's frequency range

Featured Replies

I'm running into several cases where the ATIS frequencies at airports are outside NGX's capability. For instance, at KWRI, McGuire AFP in New Jersey, the ATIS frequencies are 110.6 and 270.1. The NGX comm radios can't tune either frequency, unless I'm missing something.Tom Kent

ATIS is broadcast over the VORTAC at that airport. Generally (and this information may not apply to the NGX... don't know) one would tune the VORTAC and, in lieu of the usual morse identifier, hear the ATIS. I am not sure if FSX models this or not.As for 270.1, that's a Uniform freq and most civilian a/c don't have the ability to monitor.Sam Simons

110.6 is a frequency for the McGuire VOR and has to be tuned on a NAV radio, not a COM radio. At some airports (more frequent outside the US), ATIS may be located on a navigation radio frequency. Unfortunately, MSFS does not allow for voice over NAV frequency equipment. It is also quite common, even in the US, to have broadcasts (TWEB, HIWAS) over VOR frequencies as well as communications with flight service personnel. You just have to pretend with this airport unless you are using something like radar contact where you can get the information.

As a side note, you can often listen to AM radios with your ADF receiver... I know pilots who regularly listen to radio broadcasts when criss-crossing around Europe... :)

Yeah, we could pick up Radio Disney around here. I haven't tried it in a while, though.
