March 7, 201214 yr Hi,Just downloaded the latest update 10.04r1, and performance (for me) has definitely improved a lot over the course of the updates. I can now run global shadows and still get good frame rates. One thing though with the global shadows, with a setting of medium or high, I get shadow lines on the ground which follow the aircraft about half a mile behind and half a mile in front of it. Does everyone see this or is it something wrong with my system? Thanks. March 7, 201214 yr Yes, I have this too, my understanding is that far shadows are more roughly calculated, to lighten the load on the system. What you see is the limit between normal and rough shadows. And this is very apparent. Maybe far shadows should be made darker to compensate for the difference.Btw, did you notice the mountains cast shadows too (at least in high settings) ?
March 8, 201214 yr I think the whole shadow system needs still a lot of tuning and bug-fixing. With the latest NVIDIA driver I can run medium global shadows performance-wise, but I don't like what global shadows (or even 3D cockpit shadows) do. Cockpit shadows and ground shadows move when moving the pilots head - very distracting and not realistic at all, light changes due to shadows are often too abruptly, causing kind of flickering etc...Well, for now I turn shadows off, but I´m sure that will be a great feature once Ben did a little re-engineering.Flo Flo B.
