Holy tailwinds batman!

Featured Replies

Doing KEWR-LLBG right now and have had a 160kt tailwind pushing me along out over Connecticut, Boston, Halifax and up towards my NAT crossing. Just did Newark to Halifax in 55 minutes with departure and climbout!!! Just looked down to see almost 670kts on the GS indicator... If you are doing a transatlantic expect it to be quick eastbound and VERY long the other way unless you can avoid the jetstream!-P

Thanks for the heads up, Paul! Any idea how long the winds will hold up? Through the weekend?

MAJOR cold front moving through the East USA right now....Upstate NY was 62 degrees F yesterday, today were in low 40's to 30's degree F, and intermittent snow. :)It's all pushing through now, will be off coast headed east for the weekend.

When I first bought the ES CitationX I was always looking for routes with tailwinds, I'd check this site:http://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/windsIt shows surface winds by default so make sure you select a flight level like FL360 or something. ...and then do a flight in the red part of the chart travelling in the general direction of the wind streamlines with ASEvo or some other RW weather engine running. I had 'er going "real damn fast" a couple times, seems the "airshow" display in the CitX maxes out at 699 mph GS, talk about burying the speedometer, lol.On the subject of local weather, I saw 55° F on the thermo today, haven't seen that since October. Yeah baby! Maybe there is hope. It's been a long miserable winter here in N. Idaho so I'm 'giddy' over 55° :smile:Jim

I did ORD to BOS yesterday in the iFly 737 - had 110 kts tailwind at FL320. Nice!
