Tutorial 2 FMC ALTN DEST / MISSED APP

Featured Replies

Hi all,I followed Tutorial 2 and got to the fuel planning section, where I found I cannot get something to work. There is the part when it explains how to calculate the required fuel for the diversion.I managed to select the ALTN DES page, I managed to enter EDDM - our diversion airport - and, following the instructions, went to the next page (which can be done via the NEXT PAGE button or the right LSKs as well). So far, all is okay, but still at this point, the alternate airport is calculated from the departure airport."Without any modifications this entry shows that we’re going toan alternate (ALTN) of EDDM, via direct (D) from our currentposition, there’s 358nm distance to go (DTG), our estimatedtime of arrival and the estimated fuel burn to get there"But we wish to see it calculated from LOWI, which is our destination airport, and the manual says press the NEXT PAGE button or LSK 1R to get to the next page. DOne so, stil good. But to get the calculation from the destination airport to the diversion airport, and NOT from the departure airport directly to the diversion (alternate) airport , LSK 5L need to be pressed, which is the MISSED APP button. And here is my problem. Pressing this button basically does nothing. At least I didn't notice anything. Is it normal?I did everything as per the manual. SP1C is installed. And one more thing, minor though. Changing the payload/fuel on the 737-800 series makes the aircraft level vary when loading/unloading stuff, I mean you can "feel" that it's going deeper under the burden when loaded and kind of rises, "exhales" when unloaded. This makes loading/unloading fuel/payload quite realistic. But, it does not happen with the 700 series, you cannot "feel" these with the 700, you just change the values but no effect can be noticed.

Despite your assertion that you did it exactly per the manual, it seems you haven't actually set it up that way.You need to select an approach before you can get it to calculate from a missed approach. If there's no approach, there's no missed approach, and it can't calculate from a missed approach if there isn't one in there.

That's completely an FSX effect (not controlled by us) and I'm not sure what you're talking about - I just tried it here and I see the 700 moving the same as the 800 does.

[1st question]Thank you for your response Scandinavian13, that explains everything. Indeed, I haven't selected the approach, only the destination airport was tuned in the FMC. I will do it all over again.[2nd question]Now I understand. Probably it was too little of a change to be noticable. Thanks for all the answers!

Try going between 1/3 and full fuel - you should see it sink/rise.
