Logbook

Featured Replies

Have had to do a complete FSX re-install. Been using a piece of freeware called Logbook Editor to edit the FSX Logbook entries. Before the uninstall/re-install of FSX,exported a record of the Logbook from within the Logbook Editor in html, but now I cannot re-import that html file as there is no Import facility in that Logbook Editor or it does not read the html file when I try 'Open'.As I have more than 2500 hours in the FSX Logbook, has anyone any idea how I can recover that Logbook? Thanks.

Hey, Rick - can you open/read the Logbook with your browser? If you can do that we can recover it.(I had the same about 4 months ago, thinking I had copied it to the E drive.. but no. The one thing I do have - is the "Rewards", though. You'd think they were kept in the same place...)

Hi Paul. Thanks for that quick response. Will try the Firefox browser. Never thought of that. Will get back.PS.Yes,can open with the Firefox browser, but it only shows me entries upto November 2011 when I know for a fact that I have been adding flights every single day until 2 days ago. Don't see anything from November 2011 to date. Yes, I'd like to get those Awards back but have no idea where they are kept.

Rick Almeida

The awards are kept in the "GrantedRewards.BIN" file which can be found via typing in %AppData%MicosoftFSX if you have windows 7.

Best regards, Steffen

Thanks, Steffen. Will look there.

Okay, I have found that 'GrantedAwards.BIN' but(a)it is only 84bytes, which does not quite add up to the Awards I had before, nearly 900 hours night flying, and over 1800 hours day, and (b)even if I did have the previous 'GrantedAwards.BIN, how do I import it into the newly-created Pilot Records?

After you get your logbook repaired it will fix your rewards file.

Thanks for that Dave. It's getting the Logbook.BIN repaired that is the problem for me. The Logbook Editor only reads the current newly-installed FSX Logbook.BIN, which only has 2 entries compared to the previous FSX installation that had a Logbook.BIN containing a record of over 2500 hours. So, in effect that's the help I'm seeking----how to repair that old Logbook.BIN.

I've tried everything that I know of, Rick, trying to get that file converted to where FSLog can read it, but no luck. Perhaps one of the devs can chime in.... Neither utility that I have will read a text or an html file. Once it's into txt or html you can suck it into Excel or Access, but that doesn't recover it. What is needed is a utility which will read the txt file and convert it to the format used by MS. I can't find anything on the FSDeveloper forum either. Why on earth would a utility that can export the file in those formats not be able to import those same files back into the .bin file?????

Hi PaulVery much appreciate your efforts and your feedback. Yes, I too thought it was odd that an utility such as Logbook Editor which I found here, can export a Logbook.BIN and yet cannot import it. The dev I think is French because the Readme points to it being a French dev.Thank you for everything. I'm now trying to recover all my deleted files which were overwritten after the new re-install, and hopefully,c an recover that old Logbook.BIN. Fingers crossed!
