PSP - Burn one layer into another layer ?

Featured Replies

Morn'n Folks,About a month or so ago - Bill Womack posted a video tutorial on how to paint models in the Carenado forum... The tutorial provided instructions for painting a model that doesn't provide a paint kit and only has a non layered white paint of the model... He was using Photoshop at the time - and - if I recall correctly - uses a feature called "color burn" while applying colors to the model... This process allowed you to merge your new painted layer - with the one below it - while still maintaining all the detail and accents from the original layer...Does anyone know what features I'm looking for in Paint Shop Pro to replicate this process ???I've got to locate that video again...Regards,Scott

This is an excellent demo.Nevertheless I sometimes prefer to make the layers UNDER the white paint and set the white paint to multiply.Imagine you want a red plane.Than you make a layer under the white paint (set to multiply) and paint the fuselage red on this layer. Now you want to place a picture or registration on the red plane.Thats no problem just create a new layer between the white texture and the red texture and put it there. The platelines rivets and accents from the white layer will be visible in the picture or registration too.IF you make the red layer over the white texture and set the red to color-burn or multiply its not possible to place the picture on the red fuselage and have the lines and rivets as well. When you set the layer for the picture at multyply too ,it will mutiply with the red wich is not our intention. In other words its much easier when working with layers UNDER the white base instead of on top of it.Said in a different way, you can paint like it was a normal painting and by painting under the white paint-layer wich is set to multiply, your painting will have all details automaticly.Leen de Jager

Another way to do it is to....Make a copy layer of the background.Apply a plug-in like Remove White (available here- http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/forums/dlcat-filters-photoshop-paintshop-pro-11/) ,or others like it, to the background copy layer and you now have a layer that contains all the lines, rivets and shadings. You can then paint on a layer(s) between the two and set the background copy layer to multiply without it changing the tone of your painted layers.regards,Joe
