how MS could enhance clandestine missions

Featured Replies

just did one before I started to bring 4 pax to hana (still 16nm to go). the clandestine got me 15k XP. nice, sure. but wouldn't it be great if you could do this in multiplayer that way that 1 does the dirty job and other have to find him and eventually bring him (virtually at least) down before he reaches the goal? so you really need to avoid other planes, fly through canyons, hide behind mountains etc. and the law enforcement guys (hey, I got the police scheme unlocked for the RV6 and wanna use it!) would have something like a radar alas the aerocache sensor, whenever the pilot doing the clandestine missions flies higher than 1000f AGL he can be 'seen' or rather sensed. okay, okay, this sounds like hot pursuit for flight but though I would count me to the hardcore fraction I am indeed enjoying the missions and this version above would give them another twist. maybe MS listens... but what so you think?

There is a bit of the multiplayer element in the game already - one does need to stay away from other multiplayer planes. I've encountered this situation before running a Clandestine Cargo mission during multiplayer. I assume the consequence of getting within a certain distance of another player is a failed mission. I've gotten within 0.1nm from the fuzz and the mission ends.

While we are on the topic of improvements to the Clandestine missions, one thing I thought of today was flying at night. You can be detected by law enforcement even if your lights are off. It would be neat they had it built in where you turn off your lights and you cannot be seen or have to worry about the law enforcement at night. (at least, not unless they fly right by you.

I would always fly with my lights turned off at night during those missions anyway. Including my instrument panel lights, just part of the experience of being stealthy. I was never sure if that made a difference or not. I've only done I think 2 of those missions, and have only spotted 1 plane near me that I needed to avoid, which I was able to do within a few seconds. I enjoy them, but there is potential to make them more interesting.

They have radar (directing them from the ground) and night vision equipment. :DHook

Well when I fly them, I'm sure at least their RADAR won't see me, as I'm usually somewhere between 75-200 ft off the deck. Risky business. Only way I'm spotted is directly by law enforcement with NVG's.

Wow. Good to hear. Yes this is basically what I meant. Hey MS if this is right you are really smart ;-). Need to check this out. Now if only the other MP pilots could join expressly as law enforcement pilots and get the *task* to look for clandestine missions.... So far it seems to be all coincidence whether you as normal MP happen to 'detect' a clandestine mission? So something like a radar guidance would be actually great if ground gives you eg vectors to the clandestine pilot once he surfaces on the radar screen....

to spin this further, MS: of course the pilot on a clandistine mission shall not be seen on the map so others can easily see where he is and put their plane right next to him unless he goes eg higher than 1000 AGL. and of course police dispatch should give a broad idea where to start looking, e.g. suspect airplane spotted south of Hana or even some other 'landmarks' as they are used for the aerochaches, otherwise it is too difficult to roam all Hawaii islands to look for a pilot flying below 1000 AGL. difficulty could be set by adjusting the proximity, say for beginners law enforcement needs to get within 2 nm of the clandistine pilot where this can be narrowed down to eg 0.2nm for little bit of dog fight action - though I admit that an RV might have a head start here compared to the Maule :-), just an idea. anyway, if MS enhanced the basis of what seems to be there (no chance yet to test this myself what jasonboche mentioned above) then this could be great fun, at least for me and it might even attract / keep new blood. AI law enforcement is nice but if real people are actively looking for you, even a better thrill. just my 2 cents
