Manhattan Scenery

Featured Replies

How is everyone making out with Manhattan Scenery (as far as framerates go) I have been thinking of purchasing it, but do not want to invest $35.00 and find out my system is to slow to handel it. I am running a PIV 2.53 with 1gig of PC2100 DDR memory and a TI 4200 video card. Thanks Chuck:)

Hi Chuck,With all sliders at maximum except Air Traffic Density set at 0, my frame rate drops from 25-30 to about 11-13 when flying over Manhattan at 1000 feet. More fps when flying higher.Roland

How detailed and accurate is the scenery at ground level? Any pictures. I remember the Las Vegas addon scenery have the major streets and casinos in fantastic display and detail.Just curious.Thanks.Abe

It's not THAT detailed...IE no Times Square or anything like that. The scenery is designed to give the impression of the sprawling metropolis that NY is. It has custom autogen which fills in the blocks around the main buildings. You can also out the streets cutting through the buildings, such as Broadway. There are some details for ground level but that's mostly the heliports. But if your expecting to fly down Times Square or view other detail like the Las Vegas freeware addon then you will be disappointed. This scenery is designed to be flown at above 1000ft. But there are a lot of screen shots showing you what the scenery is like. Look at them :)

I have a similar system to yours and have no trouble with this scenery.Yes, the framerates are down into the high teens, but it is very flyable and when you approach the regular NY airports, the framerates go back up to my regular 25. The scenery quality is awesome... can think of no better word.P4-2.8, 512 MB, Ti4200-128.

I guess my responce is different than most, so here it is...I uninstalled Aerosoft's Manhattan today until a fix is made for Simflyer's KEWR and Manhattan is updated to correct the mesh on the Hudson River as well as missing autogen on the New Jersey side of the river. Simflyer's KEWR all but wipes out all autogen around the airport for at least 10 to 15 miles. Put that together with Manhattan's problems with autogen (not quite as sever) on the Jersey side of the river and you have an unrealistic flight experience when flying on the west side of Manhattan, looking west... Simflyer's promised to fix KEWR so for the most part I'm waiting on that. It looks like Aerosoft will release a patch as well to fix things on their side of the tracks although I know the two companies aren't working together but if both fix issues on their individual ends, all problems will be solved. I find I much rather have a detailed international airport to fly into and out of versus island scenery of Manhattan so KEWR wins out. If I delete/disable one, half the problem is gone. Deleting Manhattan gives me most of the Jersey autogen back to a point I could at least fly around the default Manhattan and not have autogen missing on the Jersey side (KEWR's problems don't start until just south of the Statue of Liberty which on most of my flights I'm high enough not to notice unless I'm landing at KEWR). I've never seen two sceneries that brought the worst out of each other more than what I've seen here. At this point you either are going to have one or the other. As far as FPS goes the default gives higher frames than Aerosoft's. This is more apparent at night flying into Shehryar Ansari's KLGA using Ultimate Traffic. My FPS diffidently goes into the teens. I also don't like the fact that the Manhattan scenery disappears at not that great of a distance. With buildings that large you should be able to see them for miles. What's odd is you still get the framerate hit when looking in Manhattan's direction although your looking at a flat island. Aerosoft should allow for their buildings (well most of the buildings) to be viewed from greater distances. This would at least justify the framerate hit from farther away...Well there you have it, I'm really surprised others haven't noticed the same problem... If anything I'm surprised no one has said anything about how fast Aerosoft's Manhattan buildings disappear...
