Stutters?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,I have been using Flight for a few weeks now and I am getting irratated with the micro-stutters that I have begun to notice. [specs in Sig]Any ideas for a CFG tweak? Thanks,

No help I can offer, but are you getting these seemingly at random? It doesn't happen all that often to me, but it happens when I'm over sparse scenery areas or very dense. Most of the time it is perfectly smooth, so I'm n out sure what causes it.I have also noted that it also happens when out of multiplayer sessions so it is not being caused by people joining and leaving. The stutters are usually brief in duration but can totally mess up a landing if they happen down low.

Someone has come up with a solution for that and posted in these forums, it seems that you can download and run in background a software called DXTory. It is intended for recording videos, but it also limits the frame rate of the game and makes it more stable or something like that. Try searching for "DXTory" here and see if you can find the post with the settings

I did not notice "stutters" during the first week or so of Flight, but it has become more and more noticeable. I can't help but wonder what is causing it to show up now, when I have not changed any settings. Even lowering my graphics settings to low didn't stop the issue. Is "Live" adding things behind the scenes? I will try dxtory, but it doesn't make sense to have another program running in the background. That should just put more load on the processor and not improve the situation. We shall see.

Wow Ben, you have quite the powerhouse there and I am surprised you are getting any sutters of any kind, in Flight. The Flight Team has done a superb job in the performance arena, my hat is off to them, I have to wonder when the last time MS released a flight sim, that one could say that about it...Anyway, due to the above, I don't think anyone has done much exploring to tweaking the cfg file to increase performance. Not to say something can't be done in there - if you attempt it, I would make a backup of your profile folder for Flight, in the appdata- lcoal - microsoft - flight - players - your user folder < some sequence of numbers> -. Just copy the folder itself along with all it's contents to somewhere for safekeeping as a backup. There have been a few that have had everything reset in the sim upon launching Flight one day, losing all their progression in the missions/challenges, and it has been stated some changes can trigger that to occur. I am going to make a habit of backing up that folder routinely.I am running at 4.1 ghz, with 6gb of DDR3 ram, and a GTX 460 1gb video card. I have all my graphics options maxed out completely to highest level offered to me. Flight is silky smooth for me so far in every flight I have been in - have about 25 hours so far in the sim. The only time I have seen stuttering of any kind, and I would consider what I have seen as micro stutters - is while viewing in exterior fly by view, over dense terrain. That is the only time I have seen perceptable stuttering. I just ordered on Friday, a new GTX 560TI video card with 2gb of ram - should be here in next day or so- will be interesting to see if that elimates the stutter I do see when in fly by view.I am not familiar with your particular graphics card - how much ram does it have? I am thinking the GTS series cards, are not quite as powerful as the GTX line? My first guess would be you are a little underpowered in the video card department, especially for that powerhouse you have running at 4.8 ghz. You may be off a little there in the balance, the vid card may be holding your system back a little. In the meantime running what you are - In graphics options in Flight, do you have vsync checked? If not, I would certainly check it.I assume you are also running all graphics at their highest level. If so, first thing you might try is reducing " shadow quality" to high from max.See if that makes a difference - if not enough, then try reducing " scenery quality" to high, from max.Hopefully with your system, one or both of these will take care of it. I think these two are probably the biggest hitters on performance in Flight.Hope something here helps,

I only get stutters when I run something in the background that updates constantly, or download torrents.

Wow, while it is good that may work for some folks in eliminating stutters, I don't know that I would want to have to install a new program would probably never use and have running in the background to do so... I mean for those that do not mind that, and it works for them, nothing wrong with that at all - just would not be for me.Two things that come to mind - if these stutters are a result from frame rates jumping up to high then back down.1: First insure Vsync is enabled, I should think this might help - certainly not hurt - stuttering issues.2: A common thing used in FSX to help eliminate sutters, for Nvidia card owners, is using Nvidia Inspector to control the graphics card settings, rather than relying on the FSX programs settings. Well in Flight, not a heck of a lot of graphics settings you can control from the menu anyways, and certainly can not limit the FPS from the Flight interface.Well with newer version of Nvidia Inspector, combined with newer versions of Nvidia drivers, one has access to an external frame rate limiter built in. I myself use it, along with many others, for FSX. Works pretty good for me in FSX for increasing the smoothness and reducing the stutters. I use the frame rate limiter in Inspector set to max of 30 fps for FSX. I have not, as have not yet had need, tried using Nvidia Inspector to control things like AA, AS, fps limiter, and so forth for the Flight program. One can read up here, on tips on how to setup Nvidia Inspector for use in FSXhttp://www.simforums...topic36586.html- again, these tips are for setting up for FSX, NOT Flight. But you can use this guide to at least familiarize yourself with the Inspector program, and certainly no harm can be done from playing with settings in it for Flight- in fact Inspector already has a Flight default profile. Ben I know you are already well aware of Inspector, mainly posting for new users benefits here that may not be.I myself would prefer to limit FPS from the graphics card drivers, through Inspector, rather than a completely different program intended for something else. Consider Nvidia Inspector just an extension of the Nvidia Control Panel - you just use the Inspector instead of the Nvidia Control Panel , once you use Inspector there is no need and it is better not to go back into the Nvidia Control Panel. Inspector gives a lot more access to the graphics card settings than the standard control panel does.
