March 20, 201214 yr So, a way to tell wind direction (other than dead-sticking and seeing what way you drift!) when in the air would be nice..I hate the HUD. Some basic ATIS? METAR?Who knows?!bestjake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
March 20, 201214 yr FLIGHT at least provides useful windsocks! We can actualy flyby and watch them just as I do in RL when away from the base aerodrome or landing at another airfield when joining the circuit. Also, in the GPS we carry in a glider we get that sort of Wind info we get with FLIGHTs HUD, but I agree, it is not the best component in FLIGHT... :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
March 20, 201214 yr So, a way to tell wind direction (other than dead-sticking and seeing what way you drift!) when in the air would be nice..I hate the HUD. Some basic ATIS? METAR?Who knows?!Totally agree Jake. I also hate the HUD, and end up crashing because I miss read the wind effects. I really miss ATIS . . . and I honestly don't understand why it was left out of Flight. All the weather information is there, so how difficult would it be to display it in the text window?jcomm, the windsocks are impossible to spot when you are trying to make a normal approach (you have to buzz then to see the wind direction). And they don't give you the wind speed (a 19 knot wind fills the windsocks the same as a 238 knot wind). And not all the small airstrips even have them. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
March 20, 201214 yr Author All the weather information is there, so how difficult would it be to display it in the text window?I hear that, Arwen..I tried to edit the controls.xml file to add the text.info lines that ARE still in the flight.cfg (shift-z text in FSX) I copied and edited the lines from FSX.cfg to match the xml format of the Flight one and it doesn't work, but, as you say, it is in there..A keypress, please MS :) Off I go to email the Flight team again :Dbestjake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
March 20, 201214 yr One curious thing is that the airport information within flight includes the ASOS/AWOS/ATIS frequencies. Perhaps they're something that may come soon? I certainly hope so. In the meantime, one alternative may be to use another person in Multiplayer as a sort of improvised unicom and just have them tell you the wind information off of their HUD.
