March 24, 201214 yr Almost every single time I exit FSX, I get either an FSX crash or hang. The culprit is always now the same file. That being: XAudio2_6.dll which I believe is part of DirectX.Is there a way to FORCE Windows to reinstall DirectX? Every time I try, I'm told that DirectX is up to date.Ta! March 24, 201214 yr Author You seem to have misunderstood my question, sorry...When reinstalling DirectX, if the installer finds a current version, it stops the installation. I'm looking to force it. I don't see an uninstall option. March 24, 201214 yr To my knowledge, DX being the part of the OS, once it gets fubared, you are probably in for a reinstall.Nevertheless:Did you download the redist for DX, the complete package and tried installing it? It installs DX by force, basically updating everything, no matter what you have.

Try searching DirectX 9 Uninstaller, DirectX.Happy.Uninstall or DirectX Eradicator. I don't know if those work in Windows Vista or 7, but there's no harm in trying. DirectX is a pain in the a** to remove and as far as I know there is no force install...
March 24, 201214 yr I highly doubt it's a problem with DirectX itself. More likely that your audio drivers need to be updated. However it could also be time for an uninstall/reinstall of FSX. Just because the error message mentions a certain .dll file it does not mean that that is specifically the cause of your problem. What sound card (or motherboard, if you're using onboard sound) do you have?
March 25, 201214 yr Author After having COUNTLESS (read dozens) of issues with my Asus Xonar PCI sound card and FSX sound, I finally removed the card (and drivers), and now only use the onboard sound. This is now an Asus P8Z68-Pro board. Everyone I talk to suggests it's sound drivers, but I've redownloaded and reinstalled probably 6 or 7 times, definitely with the correct 64bit drivers. I've even had Asustek confirm it's the correct driver install.I also sometimes get an error message when Win7 starts, telling me that DirectX was not correctly started.Grrrr.....
