March 26, 201214 yr Yesterday I started the day by replying to a thread where, at some point, innacuracies in the xplane10 prop model (CS or variable pitch) was discussed, and I pointed out that if xplane doesn't model the fact that, on a CS Prop, if flying, say, at cruise, 75% throttle (so not full MP ), and you pull the Prop lever back, MP should rise. If you push the Prop lever, MP should, instead, lower.Correct operation is allways: Prop 1st, Throttle 2nd when increasing, Throttle 1st Pro 2nd when decreasing... to avoid engine overstress/damage...I wasn't near my FLIGHT computer, and I do not have xplane installed, but today I was able to test it jsut to find that, FLIGHT is also wrong in this particular aspect :-(And, BTW: since I keep complaining about that exhagerated roll instead of yaw moment in xplane's prop aircraft, I should say that after doing extensive tests with FLIGHT, with my eyes wide oppen!!!, my findings are that although the roll moment is not as pronounced as in xplane10, it is still there where more yaw moment should be, and the yaw moment is also rather faint, too faint to be realistic...BTW: more testing went on with stalls and spins... While FLIGHT is better than FSX, it is still no good in this area either, and at least not better than xplane ...I had to post this, for the sake of honesty....The big difference here is, even if erratic and temperamental, we can hope that Austin fixes it in the future... regarding FLIGHT, I do not really believe it will ever get fixed....P.S.: This same post is now at AVSIM's Xplane General Forum. March 26, 201214 yr Correct operation is allways: Prop 1st, Throttle 2nd when increasing, Throttle 1st Prop 2nd when decreasing... to avoid engine overstress/damage...Looks like the Stearman checklist for Cruise has this out of order... assuming people usually use the Cruise checklist after climbing to cruising altitude. March 26, 201214 yr I would also comment that it is also unlikely that the ignition should be set to off before the mixture is set to lean cut off. Sounds like a good way to flood the engine work raw fuel. this is in the Stearman shut down checklist. On some occasions the NAV receivers stop working and I need to quit and restart for them to work. Also nitpicking...During the aerobatics training mission Malia states that a spin occurs when one wing is stalled. I really haven't found too many issues. For what it does it runs very well overall.
March 26, 201214 yr Someone posted a link to the Stearman Pilot's Operating Handbook. Here's what it says about shutting down:E. STOPPING ENGINE1. Idle engine to approximately 500 R.P.M.2. Fuel cock control "Off" position.3. Ignition swtich "Off" position.4. Slowly open throttle till engine stops.Well, we have a fuel cock control, under the left side of the instrument panel, but it's non-functional. I'd guess that lean cut-off would do something similar.I posted a few complaints about the checklists on the beta forum. Eventually some of them may be addressed. It's too bad that we can't do our own checklists. In FSX I used to write up my own and replace the HTML and use them from the kneepad in the game.Hook Larry Hookins Oh! March 27, 201214 yr I could not get the camera view to change with either my keyboard of joystick. It was locked on flyby view.I tried restarting a few times but no change.I finally deleted the camera reference (GUID number) in a saved free flight file. Then after I opened this all was back to normal.KT
March 27, 201214 yr Yeah I think that is a known bug that hopefully they will fix soon. I have had it happen to me once.Fyi, you can also fix it by opening that same file in notepad, and scroll through the different camera settings - each one will have a line that say "locked=false". When that happens, one of them is going to say "locked=true".You can change the true to a false, and all will be well again also...Btw- welcome to the forums!! Don B
