Does PCIe 3.0 make a difference in FSX?

Recommended Posts

Anyone here upgrade to a GTX 680 or Radeon 7970 on a SB-E / X79 platform? Does FSX running smoother with PCIe 3.0 and does it give higher frame rates than PCIe 2.0?

Some folks promised us to give a short review. Please dig out last GTX680 related posts or wait a day or two.

PCI-E 3.0 is only of benefit when doing compute work with the GPU, which can use the ridiculously massive bandwidth, or if you're gaming with SLI or Crossfire, in which case a card running in a x8 slot is running at PCI-E 2.0 x16 speeds (though the difference will be negligible).PCI-E 2.0 has more than enough bandwidth for games. Basically you are not going to choke these cards by running them in PCI-E 2.0 slots.Cheers,Mike

With the exception of FSX. There is a blog post from Phil Taylor that discusses this. I am quite confident that PCIe3 will provide a good jump in performance around heavy autogen areas.
