"voice" box on main panel problem

Featured Replies

While waiting for the update and tutorial I have bought a USB headset and am hoping to use the Voice control FS2Crew in the future.I have it all set up in Windows and have been going through the voice recognition exercises without trouble, and I have set it up so it is not activated when Windows starts, as mention in the manual. However when I open the main FS2Crew panel and click on the "voice" box it does not stay activated, the "on" light just flashes and goes off.The manual says this is due to an incorrect speech recognition set-up, which I am sure it is, but I can't see what I could have done wrong. As far as I can tell I have followed the instructions properly. Is there something obvious I could have missed that is vital to it's correct operation?Any help gratefully received!JohnPS I have reinstalled FS2Crew without any change to this behaviour.

Hi John,Did you read the manual :( :Nerd:You need to set your Speech Recognizer to English - US.Even people from Australia and the UK need to do this.Cheers,

Yes Bryan, I did read it and I did set it to the US option. That is why I am a bit stuck, as far as I can tell I have followed the manual instructions as required, but something is wrong somewhere.

I opened the speech engine log in the config manager and I have copied the text below, perhaps it may give a clue to what may be wrong?:Current Task: Creating the Critical Section Object... SUCCEEDED!Windows 7 Service Pack 1Microsoft Flight Simulator XCurrent Task: Creating the ISpRecognizer object... SUCCEEDED!Microsoft Speech Recognizer 8.0 for Windows (English - US)Current Task: Creating the ISpRecoContext object... Error Code: 0x80045003Johnupdate:further research indicates it may be due to a corrupt system file so rather than mess about trying to repair it I will re install Win7.I only run FSX on this computer, so although a nuisance it is not the end of the world and it is probably time for a cleanout anyway.

Yes Bryan I did indeed run System Mechanic. I have used it for years without mishap but have never tried to use voice recognition before. So SM is not safe then or is there a workround for this problem?(I realise it is nothing to do with FS2Crew, I just wondered if there is a way to use SM without causing this. )John

John,I'm afraid I have bad news:'System Mechanic' mucks up Speech Recognition on Windows. No program that uses Microsoft SAPI will work on your computer either, such as Vox ATC, etc.The System Mechanic people are aware of the issue.Your options are:1. Use Button Control.2. Do a System Restore to the point before you ran Systems Mechanic to undo the damage it did.Cheers,

Thanks Bryan, I'll do the latter or stop using SM.Do any of these optimiser type utilities work without causing problems in one way or another?John

I use Registry Mechanic (NOT Performance Toolkit) and it was OK last time I used voice control. Haven't used FS2C for a long while as I have not got it for NGX (yet) and it is the only aircraft I have now until the 777 comes along. Perhaps someone else can confirm that or not.
