p3d shading vs FSX shading/colors

Featured Replies

Hi,

Anyone know of a way to duplicate the colors used in P3D? I really like the pinkish tint. I thought about copying the Shader folder but decided I better not. I guess I could copy and save the one in FSX and copy it back if it did not work. There was a post in one of the forums where someone mentioned they duplicated or copied or recreated the colors, but cant find it now.

Well, to each their own  I would like to do the opposite. Daytime flying is ok but dusk or flying over snow covered scenery is  The Alps in winter remind me of the Grand Canyon.

Jean-Paul, That is just caused from dirty air!

Well, that just changed my mind. What were they thinking?

Frankly, sometimes, it is not that obvious as it varies a lot with lighting, but when it happens, it totally kills the immersion.

Yep, that's good. I wonder if there is a way to control shading based on the object?

Do you post on the LM forum? If so, you should post these pics. They may or may not be aware of it.

I've asked a texture guru (Aimé Leclerc) to have look at the textures. He found out that they are exactly the same as in FSX. He also tried to tune them to get the whiter shades back but unfortunately without success as whatever he tried, P3D rendered them with too much red.

Guess they were developped with the FSX engine in mind.

A workaround you could try is this one. It's not a magic bullet but you might end up with a better compromise.

They are but didn't comment.

I think the red shading is due to time of day lighting. Early or late day will add a red shade. Noon looks reasonable.

Both screenshots were taken at 2 pm on the same day.

A quote from a scenery developper (DAR) on the P3D Forum

I have been looking at this myself.

There is 2 issues.. the snow, mostly the shadows of any snow and the land itself. The snow shadows need that red hue removed and returned back to the original tones that FSX displays.

The land and everything rendered on the ground has a strong red tone to it as well and it is destroying the scenery color. This too should be returned to the original tones that FSX displays.

'Whites' on the ground textures are forced far too hard yellow and red and we cant compensate for it, the snow, or, the overall red/magenta saturation to the ground textures.

The reddish tones get worse as winter approaches and they do appear year round. They also appear at dusk far too harsh.

If there is some way to give users a way to adjust it starting with the original FSX tones as the 'zero' point that would be fine but all this red hue everywhere is forcing us to re-evaluate if we can use Prepar3D for scenery development as we can not see putting time into developing on professionally calibrated for color and white point monitors if the result looks nothing like we design in Photoshop, in-sim, and looks nothing like real world color and tone.

Please look at changing this all back to FSX tones.

Until this is resolved production for P3D scenery for us has been placed on indefinite hold.

KInd regards
