April 8, 200422 yr Besides ease of use, what would be the advantage of this new EZ GPS by Abacus? I think it does "waypoints" and instead of having to fly a simple "direct to" route, you actually can fly to a destination while hitting waypoints and having the plane turn appropriately. Is that true? Stan
April 8, 200422 yr >you actually can fly to a destination while hitting waypoints and having the plane turn appropriately. The default GPS is capable of this, just have autopilot on, click NAV, and your set. Now my concern... $19 ?! Are they insane?
April 8, 200422 yr I have not looked at it, but be aware that included Garmin 500 in FS9 is quite capable of using flightplans with waypoints. I guess in the Learning Center it is described. In the April and forthcoming May issue of Computer Pilot there is a two part tutorial on using the default Garmins. The May issue will get into waypoints.I use the Apollo 50 GPS included in the FLA product from Reality-XP since I started with FS2K2 migrating to FS9. Under 2K2 I did not care for the clutter of the Garmin nor under the FS9 one. I use the Apollo 50, import a flight plan, and find it more than adequate for features with a very clear NAV display that can let you install the instrument somewhat small in size in an aircraft panel. I do not need the necessity for using it as a pop-up but that is available.
April 8, 200422 yr FYI .. A similar looking gps by the same folks was available for FS98. It was included in the "copilot" oackage they were marketing then and I think still do. ;-)I think it is an old product just put in a new sales box. Did it work with FS98, and FS2000, yes. With FS2002 and FS2004, I never bothere to try what with the added value units available.Regards,BobSSeems the rage to talk about the "size and speed" of each others computer. Beat this if you can for solving novel/unique problems.. ..Have K&E and know how to use it!
April 8, 200422 yr I believe you're referring to the Alain Capt GPS, Bob. If so it did indeed work in FS2002, but I haven't tried it in FS9. I see no need really... as you say, the stock GPS works just fine.$19.00 does seem a bit steep. If I'm gonna buy an add-on GPS I'd take that money, add a few dollars more, and head over to the RealityXP site.Cheers,
April 8, 200422 yr Gang:it looks exactly like the old Copilot package, which, was really pretty good.It had a nice flight planner with it and, if I remember correctly, would print out really nice approach plates....It sure seems to me that they simply repackaged it and marking it as something new.JohnwNewburgh, IN
April 8, 200422 yr I think I do have the old fs98/2000 version lying around here someplace. Maybe I'll see if it will install and function in FS2004 just for kicks. Who know, it might just work. :)Darrell
April 8, 200422 yr It's in the FS.com library, Darrell. I think I might give it a try in the Legacy/FS9... just for giggles. I kinda miss that GPS, and still have numerous database files I created for it over the years.
April 9, 200422 yr Author ACS-GPS definately works with FS9. It's only drawback (IMHO)is that it must be visible to properly navigate the plane. However, I think that this has always been true. --Tom________http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg------------SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS------------ Dell Pentium 4 at 3.2GHz with 800MHz FSB 1GB Dual Channel DDR SDRAM at 400MHz 128MB DDR ATI RADEON 9800 Pro 21 inch P1130 FD Trinitron CRT Monitor 120GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive Sound Blaster Audigy 2 with DVD Audio WindowsXP Home Edition with Microsoft Plus!
