Flight1 LicenseTransfer.exe problem

Featured Replies

Was about to purchase an fs9 product. This is the 1st time I use License Transfer feature. I downloaded the Flight1 LicenseTransfer.exe from Flight1 support so I could transfer the product to my non internet connection PC from my laptop. The problem occurred when I ran the exe file it always says "the program has stopped working..". I sent them emails (submitting ticket) but no reply. have tried running it "as administrator" and also "Winxp 32 sp 3 compatibility" since im on windos 7 64 bit. Browsed here n there yet no avail and unfortunately there is no boxed/cd editions and doesnt have unofficial support here in avsim or anywhere... too bad, their site is restricted to registered members only (im not since I havent had the product yet)... any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

If I remember correctly you have to install the product on a computer with Internet connection before you can transfer it to a computer without the Internet connection.

But I might be wrong. The folks at Flight1 should help you, they're nice folk.

Hey Joe.. (Jimi Hendrix rules...lol)

Thanx for your reply. Yea I did that years ago but fortunately, they allow us to transfer the product to another computer though..

Many of our products require that your computer be connected to the Internet at the time of purchase or reinstall. If your computer does not have access to the Internet, please read...

This implies that you had the intention of purchasing the product but have not done so yet. You must buy the product and download it on a computer connected to the Internet before you can use the license transfer feature.

How to Transfer Licenses to a non-Internet Connected Computer.

If you are purchasing certain products using the Flight1.com E-Commerce System, and you want to use the software on a computer that is not connected to the Internet, then please follow these step by step instructions. If the machine you are moving the software to is connected to the Internet, then you do not need to do the following because you can use the Reinstall option instead.

First, you need to make sure the software being distributed is using the Flight1.com wrapper version 3.03 or later. This procedure is not compatible with any of the version 2.xx releases of the software wrapper. The version information is listed on the splash screen when you first start the EXE that contains the software you are going to purchase (or reinstall).

Important: Make sure you follow the instructions EXACTLY. If you deviate even slightly from these instructions the transfer will not work. The steps are easy however, just make sure nothing is missed.

  1. You must take the LicenseTransfer.exe file to the non-Internet connected machine. Place the LicenseTransfer.exe file in an easily accessible location, such as your desktop. Again, LicenseTransfer.exe MUST be on the EXACT computer you are going to use the software on.
  2. Run LicenseTransfer.exe. When you do, enter your name and press OK. You will see a new file called Your_Name.xfr (press F5 to refresh the folder if it does not show up). The Your_Name will be replaced with the name you enter.
  3. You will need to place the Your_Name.xfr file on to a floppy disk, CD ROM, or some other storage device so you can move it to your Internet connected machine where you will make your purchase. This process is also valid for reinstalls where you have already made your purchase, but are using the Reinstall option with your Key file.
  4. On your Internet connected (purchase) machine, place the Your_Name.xfr file into a good, known location. You may want to keep it stored there for future use.
  5. Run the Flight1.com E-Commerce enabled EXE file. When you get to the screen that asks you if you want to use this software on "This Computer", or on "Another Computer", make sure you select the "Another Computer" option. Press Continue. You will then need to browse to the Your_Name.xfr file you created earlier and moved to that machine. Then go through the Purchase or Reinstall steps as normal.
  6. The software extracted will not work on the current computer you just made the purchase or reinstall on. In fact, automatic running of the Setup files have been disabled when you use the License Transfer option. What you will need to do is to move the resulting setup and license files to your non-Internet computer. For this example, lets say you are purchasing a product that is being published by Flight One Software (not a Flight1.com partner vendor of a different name). You will need to:

    1. Copy the full contents of the C:\Flight One Software folder. Primarily, you will see a large Setup file, plus a file with the .LIC extension. Copy the "MySetup.exe" and "_TRANSFER_MyLicense.lic" file (note the _TRANSFER_ section as this will need to be removed later), as well as any proof of purchase or key files to a CD or other device that will enable you to move the software to the non-Internet machine. If C:\ is not your Windows boot drive, the folder may be "F:\Flight One Software" for example.
    2. Once on the non-Internet machine, you can run the Setup application to run your software. It will be very important you place the license (.lic) file in one of the following locations... The C:\Flight One Software folder (or whatever your Windows_Boot drive is that contains Flight One Software, or you can place the lic file into your root Windows folder. That is your main Windows folder, not a folder inside Windows like System32. You also need to remove the _TRANSFER_ part of the file name, including the leading and trailing underscore (_). If you do not do this, the software will not work. Simply right click the file and select Rename, or highlight the file in Explorer, select File, then Rename. The following is an example:

      The file:
      _TRANSFER_MyProduct.lic
      now becomes:
      MyProduct.lic

Your software should now run as normal! If you have continued trouble, please contact Flight1.com Customer Service, or make a post on one of the Flight1.com Support Forums.

I have purchased products from flight1 when my pc was connected years ago, but now it's impossible to connect my pc.

Hi.

Just a thought, and more than likely in completely the wrong direction, but... are you downloading to a public (or employer's) PC? I ask because my internet connection comes courtesy of my employer during lunch-breaks, or at my local library. I find that their respective security policies can mess up or block the operation of various files and I suppose something could have got lost during the download.

If you are on such a machine, try borrowing a friend's PC & internet instead.

Cheers,

D

Negative sir, I'm gonna transfer it to my PC at home, but I only get excellent connection at office.. Checking Flight1 support every hour still no response..

here is some recent trouble I've had with flight1 DRM:

I purchased a couple of things a few years ago i.e. many PCs ago..

1) so I dig up the purchase email (great!)

2) aim to download the file form the website - can't find it as product discontinued. no link for people who previously purchased it.

3) find an erroneous link in the support forum to the product (not a sticky link) luckily. download it.

4) run the installer. It asks for a .key file (the order code sent with email can't be used directly)

5) find support page to get lost key file

6) Get sent a link to a key file using my order code (hooray - at last some progress..)

7) run installer again. Input key file. fingers crossed.

8) Installer then decides this is not enough (why?) and asks for a password - the last four digits of the card I used to make the purchase (card long since destroyed!)

9) so I log onto amazon to see whether this card still exists in their records. no joy.

10) stuck so go back to flight1 support faq for lost passwords etc.

11) instructed to input email address in order to be sent details of how to retrieve lost password

12) email received.

By all means have some form of online verification, but it must easier than this...

Sorry to hear that.

But a guy named Jeff Smith does provide good support, my problem has not been solved but at least we're heading to a solution, thou I have started losing my appetite in the product.

Sorry I can't help, but other than to open a Flight1 ticket. Flight1 has to have the worst DRM system in existance. I absolutely hate having to re-install my LVL-D everytime I re-install FS; as I don't have access to the original e-mail address or credit card. It is an absolute pain and often times just makes me discouraged to even fly the LVL-D again because I know what I'm going to have to go through.

It's reasons like the ridiculous DRM why you see people just downloading the products illegaly, as it is sure as hell a lot easier than going through the official process.

ouch..

I always re install my FS whenever a new add on is about to be installed

Somehow, I have been going through this process for almost a week so that I can have this product legally.. the flight1 support's last message indicates that there's nothing they can do for the flight1 LicenseTransfer.exe error as they urge me to connect my PC to the internet. It is only a tiny file no more than 300kb yet it seems hard for them to solve.
