April 3, 201214 yr I'd like to create a panel that about fills the whole screen (i.e. with "full size" instruments) - but it doesn't seem like the gauge artwork is high enough resolution.. I'm using a 27" monitor (iMac actually) and am wondering if I'm just missing something easy? thanks, Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
April 4, 201214 yr Hi ! You can use your own textures for 2d panels instruments. Look for "generic instruments": http://wiki.x-plane.com/Category:Panels A couple instruments can't be done with generic, that's the case of artificial horizon. I didn't try yet, but you should be able to replace the texture as well, inside the aircraft folder. Don't know if you can use bigger resolution though. I'll show you a very high res Cessna airspeed indicator that I made, when I go back home. ;)
April 4, 201214 yr Here's the Cessna 152 ASI: I made it with 4 grouped generic instruments. The needle's shadow is dynamic. Notice the non-linear scale. Like all X-plane instruments, it's perfectly smooth ! I'll post it at the .org repository when it's ready, there's now a category for generics. You should look at the instruments there, one is made by Dan Klaue, with a link to a tutorial to get you started. The great thing is, you can very easily import one of these in planemaker, group the parts together, and adjust the scale. If you want a full screen panel, make a png the exact same size as your screens's resolution. This way, X-plane won't rescale and make it blurry. Cheers ! Pascal
April 8, 201214 yr I'd like to create a panel that about fills the whole screen (i.e. with "full size" instruments) - but it doesn't seem like the gauge artwork is high enough resolution.. I'm using a 27" monitor (iMac actually) and am wondering if I'm just missing something easy? Hello I did what you want to do, I think. Here a screenshot of my hi-res panel. Works good and has the orignal size of instruments (3.75 inches). I used planemaker and created all instruments from scratch as so called "generic instruments". To create the high-res artwork use any and a graphic tool such as Photoshop, Gimp or something similar. No programming is required, everthing else is done in planemaker. Suggestion: go the "generic instrument" way. Increasing the resolution of standard instruments is very limited an will not lead to good hi-res instruments. Read the report from Dan Klaue. I fully confirm what he states. Apart from Dan and others, I also supplied a bunch of generic instruments in the download section of www.x-plane.org. Limitation of planemaker: you can not create instruments (like the artificial horizon) which require two inputs (dataref) on one indicator or needle. In some later versions of planemaker this limitation will be solved. But who knows.
April 8, 201214 yr Good job MajorFibbs ! I've still a long way to go for standard six. I try to digitize the real fonts from high res pictures (whenever it's possible to find some), so it takes a lot of time. Works good and has the orignal size of instruments (3.75 inches). In fact, it depends on your screen's dot per inch. I chose to go for very high res, and rescale it later depending on what screen I'll use it.
March 14, 201313 yr Hi turner112, I’m not sure if you still looking for a good panel to fill your 27", but this might interest you. And totally free... http://forums.x-plan...&showfile=18737 or http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php/files/file/439-c172sp-wide-panel-project/ Alan
