Why can't autothrottle control speed after landing?

Hi,

 

After I land and bring reduce my speed to around 10-20kts I turn on the autothrottle to maintain my taxi speed. However whenever I turn it on, the speed gradually increases and keeps increasing without stopping at my wanted speed. Even if I have my speed set to 1knot, the autothrottle will make it increase. I have my autopilots off and my flaps retaracted. This happenes to all aircraft not only particular ones. Is there something I'm doing wrong whilst I'm taxiing to the gate because this never happens when I takeoff, it only happens after landing.

 

Is there anything I didn't do after landing?

You can't control taxi speed with autothrottle. It's designed to manage the aircraft's speed in the air and during autoland, not on the ground. Not designed or certified for that so I'm afraid you will have to maintain the taxi speed by yourself...

Not That I Know Of Like MAX Said Its Only For When You Airborne... Most Of The Planes I Fly The Speed On The MCP Wont Go Below 100

I don't think so. But what exactly is your problem controlling the taxi speed? It might take a little time to get used to it, but it's definitely easier than flying a plane in the air...

Use SOME throttle to get the aircraft to a speed of a round max 25 kts on straight taxiways, slow down to 10 kts when rounding corners and carefully apply a little brakes when you get to fast or when nearing a corner. Never exceed 40% N1 while taxiing, usually values around the 30's should be fine to reach your taxi speed. Think ahead, react precise and not with huge changes in N1. It depends on the plane and the GW of the plane while taxiing. A fully loaded 747 with fuel for a trans-pac flight will need more N1 to get going and maintain the speed (and also to stop that mass when braking) than an empty 747. There you might be just fine with idle throttle and the plane still accelerates a little bit.

My advise is, just practice taxiing a little. It's no rocket science and with some experience you will get better.

To each his own I guess - as stated autothrottle is simply not for ground operations. But look for 'groundhandling' in the fs2004 section of the library - you'll see a couple options from back in the day. Those packages include automatic taxi speed control.

Do a search here at AVSIM (library) for "Rob Barendregt" or "rcbgh-40.zip". I think that should fit your needs. It is a gauge to control pushback direction and distance as well as taxi speed. Hope this helps.

Hi,

 

First of all AT is usually inhibited on the ground (except for e.g. N1/EPR used for setting takeoff thrust when the AT system is armed on Boeings).

 

Second, it is perfectly normal for an aircraft to accelerate to 30 or 40 kts at idle thrust, once you've got it rolling. It is therefore perfectly normal to have to apply the brakes periodically to keep the speed down (the technique is to let the aircraft accelerate to e.g. 25 kts, then brake to 15 kts, and let the aircraft accelerate again).

 

After landing, the AT system should disengage either with weight on wheels (when the aircraft lands) or when selecting reverse thrust (depending on the aircraft type).

 

Can I suggest you try flying a real simulation (e.g. PMDG 744 or LevelD 767) to get an understanding for how things really are with regards to systems operation and aircraft handling. There are a lot of aircraft out there that just use the MSFS autopilot and they consequently function incorrectly.

Okay guys I'll try those and it's harder with a keyboard to control speed :/

SPEND a little money and get a joystick,and some sites have a section called utilities where you can get a addon taxi speed

to go on the panel.

Just scroll down the page until you are a little bit past half way. The gauge is for FS2002 but works perfectly OK in FS2004. The filename is rcbts-10.zip
