Using Ideal Flight 10 as a launcher

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I just downloaded and tested Ideal Flight 10 to try to use it with P3D. I have done the registry fix, and I have a copy of the prepar3d.exe called fsx.exe in the folder.

Installation went smooth, but it had trouble reading two aircraft configuration files for the default 747.

I do not have a registered version of the application, but selecting a simple flight and launching its went perfect. I ended up at the correct airport in the correct aircraft. I haven't had time to test all the functionality, but at least as a simple launcher that allows you to choose airport from a list beforehand it should work great.

My only problem is that it seemed to change my configuration file, at least many of my graphic settings had been changed without me knowing why.

Weird about the graphics change.. Don't know why it would do that.

Do you get the Ideal flight stuff appearing in the addons menu during the flight?

I own IF10 but not Prepar3d. I'm considering it seriously, but love IF10.

Didn't check that, but I believe that if I switch over the correct settings in the dll.xml file it should work. I can try later and let you know if you want.

It appears I was wrong about DLL.xml. I found no entries to move around between the installations. When checking inside the simulator I found no menu items, although I got some kind of green notification bar telling me about my flight plan. Also, I am not sure if it's generation of a ai traffic will work since it reports problems with finding ai destinations when generating a flight.

Still, as a generic launcher and flight generator I think it will work. I also found the reason for my change the settings. It doesn't launch prepar3d.exe, rather it launches fsx.exe which is a copy of the first one. It then needs to configuration files have the same name, so a simple copy of prepar3d.cfg called fsx.cfg is sufficient.

Hi,

I'm working on an expansion to IdealFlight now, the regular copy is feature rich and just about done, but you will always get any improvements made to those features. The expansion will be a separate license. Prepar3d support is planned with other things like FMC support, more route types, missions, and map features. There's a little time yet before we all need move to P3D.

Thanks for your support

Any news on an official P3D version of Ideal Flight - its been forever now...

if you need a copy of prepar3d.exe named to fsx.exe i think that IdealFlight starts the simulator as a process called fsx.exe so you may need to add this fsx.exe to your Nvidia or NI profile if you make any settings there.
