April 14, 201214 yr perhaps they are going to eventually provide what they have in FSX, which has an ATC tower feature. It is meant for multiplayer but there is a trick in order to use it on desktop. From in the tower you can view all of the actual flights on a radar screen, and on that screen tune any of the approach, ground, tower, etc. freq's and listen to the controllers. Have lots of options as far as the radar screen settings, and can select nearby flights to get detailed info such as flightplans, etc. This one is at KCLT:
April 14, 201214 yr Author I only had the basic version of FSX, so I never got to play around in the tower. (Apparently I'm missing quite a few planes as well, but that's okay since I was treated to the new-to-me Maule M7 Orion in Flight.) Did the FSX towers have simulated weather radar? CLT has its own TDWR northeast of the airport that has a pretty commanding view of the local weather at the lower altitudes. It's got some serious clutter issues though (even for a TDWR), there's a water tower to the northwest that completely cuts out returns from a few degrees of the scan, plus the longer range reflectivity scans pick up the mountains to the west. Still, it's right in a local gap in the NEXRAD network (none of the WSR-88D's in range can scan at less than eight thousand feet AGL over the city), so it's very useful for us weather geeks when the Carolina Tornado Alley is active.
April 17, 201214 yr that radar image in the lower left, and upper right looks oddly like a screen capture of the STARS mode in ATCsimulator2. I captured the screen and resized it.
